This skill sounds awful, we have meme this skill for way to long and should stayed that way. They could just give us summoning which is still oldschool (released in 2008) and it was very useful.
I was lukewarm on sailing at first but honestly this sounds great. I especially like it as a skill that you can train while getting secondary exp in another skill the whole way. Feels like that aspect is a little like a temple trek but only with one step.
The fact that everything revolves around a certain location (your ship) makes this very similar to dungeoneering. I.E. should just be a minigame instead of a skill.
Shamanism failing to this meme of a skill was funny at first, not so funny now that they took it seriously.
X and Sailing: Smuggling runs for thieving XP, the time triles for Agility XP & FineDining (instead of slayer, find rare creatures, fish them then sell/cook them to/for the gnome restaurant) for Fishing/Cooking XP.
What if you were to own a larger ship and be able to create/construct a furnace on board. With this, you can supply and hire a crew hand to smith cannon balls for battle! Possible make it only for use on the ship so the market. Something I would be interested in training dor
Regardless of what "upgrades they make to the engine", controlling the boats is going to suck. That's a given. It's going to be tedious and frustrating. On top of that, you gotta do it for hundreds of hours because it's a skill..
The charting aspect is so cool to me, brings me back to the feeling of aimlessly exploring the world of Runescape as a child- I'd love to experience that feeling again in a whole new part of the map! And being able to get other skills xp through sailing is really cool, reminds me a bit of how dungeoneering was itself a skill but had you train multiple other skills during it, but more interesting to me personally.
Surely the combined training methods will have sailing experience as the primary to keep the other skills as better trained on their own.

Sailing would better as an addition to the game but not as an entire skill

They should just make it into a minigame using the combat mechanics. Rest just seems like agility with extra steps
