5. While I appreciate a challenge, and love to see other people attempt difficult things, I don't have too much sympathy for the guy with the 39 inch long boat. It is a ridiculous type of world record to go for, more at the intersections of stupidity and vanity, than a genuinely noble goal. Even had it succeeded, it's the sort of thing where if you're smart enough, lucky enough, and funded well enough to do that, you could have just as easily done something more meaningful.

   At least he got his 15 minutes of fame.

    Seriously, if I was about to head out on a three month trek across rough waters, I would have tested the vessel quite a bit before heading out.
