  1. The Buick 4.1 liter V6 engines actually used the crankshaft and higher volume oil pump from the turbo 3.8 from these years and with proper maintenance could be a reliable decent engine. My buddy had this engine in his 1982 Cadillac Deville with over 100K and it ran perfect after I went through it. It was actually a one owner vehicle on the original drivetrain too. After replacing the terrible restrictive pellet catalytic converter with a newer style high flow unit, a new choke pull-off and re-built quadrajet, complete tune up and a few tweaks to the base timing and the secondary's of the carburetor this rather large sedan would pull pretty strong down low and could easily keep up with fast moving traffic on the highway. Where it fell short was when you needed a quick burst of passing power on the open road. There just wasn't enough power and torque left for that. The 307 option was barely any better in stock form but with the same tweaks as above could be improved. Finding a 307 1981- 1984 with the optional 3.23 rear gears was the way to go and those pulled much better from experience but finding one was tough.

  2. I had one that I bought brand new. Actually just unloaded it in March. It was just sitting for 15 years. But one thing I'll say, it was comfortable. But I wrnt through 3 transmissions, 2 a/c systems, 2 power windows stopped working, the drivers power seart failed, and many other things had to be replaced. AND THE CAR WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF.

  3. Great review Adam. On the gas pedal size comment, my Air Force pilot stepfather always loved the fact that Olds brake pedal was at the same level as the gas pedal thus making an easy to shift the foot from gas to brake without having to lift your foot.
Also, I had 77 Chevy Caprice coupe with the 305 v8 and after 150 thousand miles, you couldn't tell if the engine was running at idle when stopped at a light! It was so quiet and smooth. Good handling with the F41 suspension but never got better than 18mpg with or without passengers.

  4. We had the Oldsmobile Diesel and I loved it, I wish they would have been more reliable, I miss those 80's Diesel engines, I use to love hearing that rattle and knocking.

  5. I had the exact 2 door Olds 98 in that white color as seen here. Was driving by a Cadillac dealer and saw it on the used lot. I had seen only one on the road before, so when I saw this one on the lot…..I almost caused an accident wheeling into the dealership.

None of GM look alike cars in the 2 door body had the elegantly classy look of this car. None of them.

I disagree about the tail lights. Of all the GM boats in this era, none captured the classy look of the Olds tail lights. Didn't look anything like or copy from any Cadillac. If you look at the Buick and Caddy and Chevy and Pontiac tail lights….all were way less elegant.

The pillow seats were great and, again, so classy looking.

Mine had the 307 V8 and it had 130k on it as I recall when I sold it in NJ.

Here in FL, there is one near me, but it has an uncomfortable amount of rust.

Wonder what the units production was, for you just don't see these around at all anymore.

There are few cars that ring my bell and this was one of them.

A beauty that I kind of wish I still had.

So heart warming to see this video.

  6. I hate that the automobile industry’s money bigwigs and organizations have taken away choices and pleasures of the automobile. They’re all pretty much the same now and I’m sure they’ll continue to become even more uniformed

  7. Instant like. We talk about this model on one of the Brocasts.

I learned to drive on a 1980 Ninety-Eight Regency sedan that brought me home from the hospital when I was born.

My brother learned to drive on a 1983.

Both were 307s. Mine had the 3 speed auto with the cornering lamps; he had the 4 speed over drive.

The back seat was undeniably sofa on wheels.

Both sedans are still in the family. And we love ‘em.

  8. Not just the center armrest – have you tried to prop your left elbow up on the windowsill of any modern car? If you can even find a spot with a comfortable angle, it's made out of plastic with surfacing modeled after 80 grit sandpaper.

  9. I've always said that of the '70s and '80s GM luxoboats, I would take an Olds 98 Regency or a Buick Electra over a DeVille… 👍

  10. Damn! I always thought the 700-R4 was the first overdrive… and a 200 in a 98?!? Malaise -> Disaster.

  11. I just bought an 1983 olds 98 diesel. Rides as smooth as ever has almost no power going up hills but thats expected. She has some quirks but overall love the car.

  12. Dear car friends I ask for your help in speaking out against these contracts that state you can't sell your high end car or warranty is void. Here is the problem. A car is your private property and a corporation is telling you what you can and cannot do with your private property. This is unconstitutional. This means the car company is still part of owner after you buy it. The car industry can use a lottery system…my husband sells cars and came up with that. In no way can we let this stand or more and more rules will be made. The NWO agenda is for you to own nothing and be happy. It all starts somewhere and this is it. So call Chevorlet and let them know they are not above the US constitution and cannot tell you what to do with your private property. This is how we continue to be screwed by gov and corps. When you buy something it's yours. They can come up with something else but not violating our private property rights Remember it starts with you and speaking out against corps violating the constitution. They are NOT above the constitution! Stop this crap now! Demand they stop or we boycott their products. We gave the power of the pocket book.

  13. My Mom’s ‘79 Delta 88 Coupe had that gas pedal. I used to go crank it in the morning when I was 4 & 5 years old. I remember pumping the pedal and it feeling like a dang surfboard. It’s crazy how times change, I’m 43 now and would flip out if my 5 year old grabbed the keys and went to start the car.🤣

  14. I had a 1981 4 door with the diesel engine that threw a rod through the block a month. It was in the shop for 6 weeks and GM wouldn’t pay for the total repair. It was a good thing I had a extended warranty.

  15. I had one I wish I kept
    Mine had a 307…
Now they are worth a lot of money
They were the best and quietest car's Oldsmobile ever made.
I sold it to a guy in the Bronx he used it as a gypsy cab he loved them because of the partician between the front and back seat ,so he can go in the bad areas and do fares.

  16. The best year of this car was 1978 those cars were sexy sharp and they had A350 in them that was very very reliable. I had one and it was what it was supposed to be a rocket. Please comment back if you feel the same.

  17. The 81 to 84 olds 98 2 door are my favorite of the downsized C bodies. I do like the fact that the fender skirts returned on them. , I don’t know if you know this but that car was available full gauges although rarely ordered, the extra gauges were below the speedometer. Not a very good place to see them,

  18. Hands down….my favourite car of all time
Any yr '98 from 1975 onward till the last model
    ❤ True Love

  19. I preferred GM vehicles back in the 60s, but they went to hell along with the other US brands around 1969. I've been quite happy with the several Saabs, Porsches, and Mercedes that I've had since then . When I last bought US (a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi), it was nothing but tears.

We could do better in the US, but we keep letting water heads run the car companies with predictable results.
