12. The smoke you are seeing is from the harvesting of the sugar cane fields. They burn the fields before they harvest the cane. You are surrounded by sugar cane farms.

18. It’s a cool trip. My wife and I did this on our sharpie years ago between Tampa and Abaco Bahamas. The day we crossed the lake wind picked up to 25 knots and outside the lock waves were 4 ft. Entering the lock was a washing machine and the mast spreaders were almost kissing the walls. On the other side we anchored just past the railroad lift bridge and woke up to alligators around us.
