  1. The hull might be misshapen by how it is supported and you may find that the door fits once you are back in the water. Happy to see your new bin finds. Sleep well from Victoria BC Canada

  2. Our summer was the wettest summer for many years this year here in New Zealand. So hopefully it’s not the same for you guys.

  3. You both are doing just fine that one day is coming your way when your on the water with big smiles and great sunsets keep up the great work

  4. Good on you thanks,,baby steps works for me with boat projects , forward progress is what gets em done, it's coming along noloan boating is the best kind , Auto pilot good win , happy days

  5. ….. speed is not always a good thing ….. the main thing is you are moving forward and enjoying fulfilling your mission/goals ….. good score in the bins … I'm also a dumpster diver ….. thx for the share .. as always … never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans …..

  6. I can’t walk past a bin or a skip without looking for treasure. Waste not, want not! It’s also genuinely ecomental😂. I’m not allowed to take stuff to the local tip anymore because I come back with more than I took. That’s when you need to worry. Go well.

  7. Great to see you both back working on Seabird
Stick with it and you will get her finished in know time.
The new port hole looks great, I take it you managed to get the supporting grp fingers in place.
Superb find on the Auto pilot top notch upcycling skills there.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

  8. Having watched Ross on life on the hulls build his catamaran , patchwork looks good , you then hide all the crimes under gelcoat 😃 🍻

  9. Guys don't cut square corners it creates a stress point use a hole saw in the corners. Grind the edges of the cutout to a taper about 30-50mm around the cutout for added strength and ease of fairing.
The largest piece of fibreglass always goes in first as that gives the best adhesion new to old. Hope this helps .. Good luck.

  10. Hi guys 😊, before unfolding mattresses and cushions, you should disinfect the cabin from wood bugs, sugar mites and the accarians. A good aggressive cleaning and surface and cracks treatment in addition to vernissage is necessary

  11. Great score on the Raymarine gear and I’d much prefer a patch work deck that’s solid than a collapsible soft one that’s going to end in grief some day 👍

  12. You're doing well. +1 on the mattress topper, we actually put a 4 inch foam on top of ours but the original was only 2inch. (probably because the headroom was so low (less than sitting on a 23ft boat). For the interior, if you decide to paint, you can replace just the bottom parts instead of the whole interior. If you choose the right line, just painting the bottom below that line and leaving the top varnished will look "right". The line will have to be sharp and consistent for that effect to work.

Also, think about what you need to do so that it feels complete and homey to get going with the understanding that improvements can made as you go. This will give you a sense of newness on an ongoing basis. For work that is going to be painted, plywood will work. Marine ply or MDO are pricey and I have heard that today's marine ply is much less good than it has been in the past. Pressure treated plywood is pretty good and what I have used lately. I have also use "u-lay" (which is supposed to be void free) with good results. I used u-lay for the hull of a plywood boat that is still leak free and not rotting after almost 25 years. Normally, people just default to recommend marine ply so you can't complain if it rots later because it is obviously made for the job…. and costs what a boat owner "should be willing to pay" (ie. three times as much). George Buehler's: "Buelher's Backyard Boatbuilding" is a good read through just as a counter to much of the marine madness when it comes to advice. His website has a lot of good stuff on it too. The boat on the "Salt and Tar" yt channel is a buelher boat (there are others too, but that one is finished and sailing so you can see the story complete). Their interior is nicer than any stock production boat. Annie's book: Voyaging on a small income is quite good too…. as is the story of Fanshi, the boat she finished a few years ago.

  13. Slowly but surely is the way to go! You're doing fine! I firmly believe that one man's trash is another's treasure, and Stu just proved it again. Love watching the two of you and here's wishing you the very best!

  14. Every sailboat i have been on except a new production boat is a patchwork. So many good memories, and some bad, in that patchwork and the sense of achievement i found with my patchwork boat is indescribable.

  15. good you can both retain your sense of humor, must be quite wearing at times but eventually you will have the massive satisfaction from what you will have achieved
    keep battling on ,take care

  16. Marina you make me laugh with your commentary, sense of humour and your lovely accent. Stewart, great to see you using lots of peel ply it's a pity the guy who built that shelf in the forepeak 2:48 did'nt have any -what a mess.

  17. The thing about sailing is to balance the time between sailing (the enjoyable bit) and maintenance (keeping the boat going)! Maybe you should try and do some sailing with friends etc to keep you motivated? Was wondering about filling those holes and gaps: do you not need to drill small holes sideways and put say wooden pins in to join the new and old, or am i over engineering it? Just a though.

  18. WELL done on the FIBERGLASS work you two! Yes, dry, repeat dry, repeat…it takes time to do a proper job.all .which shows on your boat! Thanks for taking us along! Cheers, Rich
