With all due respect to the environment, and to sea life, which as a sailor myself, I love, why are sailors voluntarily allowing (by doing nothing and just looking overboard while it occurs) these animals to destroy their boats and put the human beings on them in danger when the animals could be taken out at a distance after making their intent known with appropriate weapons?
Impressive footage, I'm not sure what the point of the tapping/banging is – it could easily mean come here as much as go away…. Good to see that your boat was okay. I'm not sure this is the same as the attacks that have been documented elsewhere, the orca didn't seem to be interested in doing much more than giving itself more than a rub on the rudder, didn't try to bite it or anything destructive. I suspect IMOCA rudders are rather stronger than the plastic boat rudders though so perhaps it had less effect (says more about production boat quality than anything else).
Looks like they’re scratching themselves? Remember they have a huge brain and there mammals like us . I’ll bet there smarter
Really I couldn't imagine being that big having that much body space and not having a back scratcher, no scratcher for an itch, you guys look like a perfectly good back scratcher to me scratcher beautiful camera work and im glad you're okay
Perhaps we are an actual threat to them, we do compete for food and contribute to oceans cleanliness. Perhaps rising ocean temps or bacteria, or chemicals are increasing aggressiveness or brain function
Why were the sailors banging on the boat making all that noise?it was persistent and deliberately made by humans on the boat… Im sure it was something the Orcas couldn't ignore
Messin' with them, boat & crew! Great video, too! How about stenciling an Orca silhouette(s) on the side of the VO65? Orcas, 3; VO65, Zero!
Is going silent dead stop better than banging?
Man is smart, the camera and the cameraman never die.
If that was a dog, bear, gorilla, tiger etc endangering a human life it would be terminated, this pod of orcas need to be euthanized then right
Yea that definitely didn’t look like an attack. Have you seen what they do to animals they eat? They lunch themselves at them like a battering ram at full speed. It look like it was probably scratching some parasites off more like. Of it wanted to break something, it would have, cus it’s powerful enough to pretty much do whatever it wants not gonna lie.
maybe they think its an orca fin?
The mammal was just rubbing it's head on the rudder. Just curious creatures.
That very smart apex predator was so gentle with those rudders
This video is a prime example of people totally misunderstanding what they are seeing. The Orca is simply scratching itself on the rudder! How can anyone view this as an "attack" when there is absolutely NO display of aggressiveness here? Honestly.
That’s play/exploration. If they wanted to “attack” than that boat wouldn’t stand a chance with a pod of orcas.
What are those knocking sounds? Glad you’re all safe! ❤
#TeamOrca
How about we just stay out of the Ocra’s homes?
CAPTAIN: MAY DAY. MAY DAY. THE BLACK AND WHITE DOLPHINS ARE PLAYING TOO ROUGH AGAIN.
FIRST MATE: "RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN FOURTH PLACE."
ORCA: RIGHT NOW YOU'RE IN MY PLACE.
Right. The orcas were just saying hello. All they wanted to do was get there back scratched. Those dudes were flat out wusses.
Why is the racecourse where the orcas are?
They are smart they talk to each of an they are a Big smart hunter, mess with them if u want u will b eatin after they play with u till they tire then just eat you. There's nothin in the ocean badder then the Orca. We're there next sport wait and see
😅😂😂😂😂😂
To them they are touching a dorsal fin! The drumming on the hull is calling them👵🏼
This is AMAZING….and they don’t even realize what they’ve captured on film…the very 1st TRANS ORCA, aka: TRANS WILLY!!!…that is a MALE orca believing the “Fin” 😜 underneath the boat is the Dirk Diggler of Orca Ding-GAAA-Ling’s in the wild world of Orca’s! WOW…KUDOS DUDES!!!! 🤙🤘🤣🤣
Pro tip, making tapping, banging noises only attracts them not scares them away.
I saw zero danger. Curios orca scratches his nose on rudder. Big deal you bunch of babies. You are in their home. Show them some respect and stop trying to make them into the bad guys.
Banging did not work !
Underwater irritating frequency generator, sirens.
This is nothing that a 12 gage and some high velocity slugs wouldn't take care of! ….then just think of the BBQ!🤘
just shoot the whales
Scary moments? Sack up dudes, that whale looked like he was curious about your boat and itched it's nose. Drama queens.
Their super intelligent and inquisitive, it's their world, they absolutely own the ocean, just be thankful we're not on their menu, if we were you wouldn't be able to enter the water at all.
Orca was just scratching its head!🤣👍🏻✌🏻
Beautiful creatures but must have been scary for the sailing team. Does anyone know if the sailing team ever got back into second place or won the race?
I think they are just upset about sea world Europe
Great job filming this encounter! Something that everyone else seems to coincidentally not be able to do. This video proves that they're not "attacking" boats, just playing. The guy interviewed in the video seems like he doesn't have much experience with the ocean, it's not something that's scary
Perhaps it's time to remind Orca's about who the apex predator really is…
Orcas are orcanizing! These attacks are becoming the Orca equivalent to a TikTok trend.
Dude just had an itch… and needed a place to scratch
