1. I built a Shearwater 39 in the middle 1990's and this look like the same type of deck hull joint and the builder used plywood too fill the void between the hull and deck. I removed it before fitting the caps.

  2. Hi John , I do wish you had filmed a bit more as I would have really liked to hear Aladino's assessment of your bulwarks ? ( assuming you
guys discussed that too? ) or will you be talking about that in an up coming video ? / great to see them taking a bit of a break from their
    own labor of love ❤😸😺

  3. Indeed Aladino and Maya also had their disappointing amount of discoveries.. But with the right attitude, zest and drive..A nice and durable boat will be born..

  4. Can I ask how long are you thinking all this is going to take?I know it always takes way longer then we plan, and you run into problems or work you didn’t expect. And are you working full time on this project?Im guessing it’s cold up there the way you’re dressed,it’s 95 degrees here In Alabama 🥵🥵 July.

  5. I'm surprised you didn't ask Maya and Aladino about your bulwarks. That was the major reason for their refit and rebuild of their Cape George 36 cutter. It was the rot of their wooden bulwarks that made them replace their deck beams. They replaced their wood bulwarks with high density foam.

  6. Magic Carpet is one of my favorite channels.. and wow that bow is a lot of work. you continue to impress with your ability and knowledge. thanks for the video!

  7. …. I am also curious to see how far that wood product goes along the bulwark and if you cap it with glass later … definitely interesting …. thx for the share Jon …. as always .. never stop dreaming just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ……

  8. Grinder with flap disc. I tried an orbital with 60 grit, no joy, grinder with flap disc, YES. Down side, dust control but maybe there are grinders with proper dust control. That bulwark holds many opportunities,

  9. I usually hear the phrase "fixer upper" attached to houses, but you obviously have one at hand. Man, you have a TON (x10) of work ahead of you….for your sake, I hope you find some volunteers to give you a hand….

  10. Comfortable, educational, great pacing and so easy on the ears. Remiinds me of this old Tony. Your a wizz at this. I can see your channel exploding if you keep this up with regular videos. Thank you for the great content.

  11. I like using a grinder and 36 flap disk with a dust shroud for quickly removing glass. A lot cheaper than chewing thru sand paper in turbo mode. Try using 36 or 40 in turbo mode for quick removal👍

  12. Man, I bet 1 1/4" g10 is pricey! Great stuff, but the 1/4" I just bought gave me sticker shock. Where'd you buy it? I need more.

  13. G'day John, so cool you hooked up with Aladino and Maya, Magic carpet has also gone through a lot of great work. I'm sure they can help point you in the right direction. Great work so far, mate.

  14. Oh what wonders you find, the hull deck joint looks interesting from below, I think you are going to have to bite the bullit and replace the entire bull works. Great Video, love your enthusiasm.

  15. As always, a great video! It’s refreshing to see the details of the demo-and-repair process, as opposed to the “magical montage” where everything is suddenly “fixed”. Of course there always needs to be some in streaming vids. But for hopeful seafarers such as myself, the little details matter. Besides, I have to wonder if it appeals to every sailors’ little closet masochist—as painful as it may be, there’s a measure of satisfaction in tearing into a boat, only to discover a critical problem, and then slightly (or excessively) over-spec the solution! Thank you so much for all you do!!!
