If you are going through all that trouble of disassembling two exhaust manifold and reinstalling one (3 operations) I would have sent it out to have it boiled/acid washed/ that way you know it is good as new. This is more critical especially if repairing the second engine right away is not in the budget. If one exhaust manifold is in such bad shape, the other couldn't be that far behind,.

  2. I just have to say it and I’m not trying to come off as rude only wondering why you’re putting money in to the wrong ? What I mean by that is instead of a washer machine, the Bimini cover, and other things you’ve brought knowing that the motor needed to be fixed and thinking that the one motor you had was going to pull the full load not to mention the generator is busted too .
    I just wondering what the thought process is/ was ? Again I love the show and I don’t mean any harm I only felt that the priorities were kinda mixed up

  4. Seems like you guys are a bit stressed. Can totally understand that. But you are making progress. Maybe you can consider putting in an inexpensive electric motor to replace the one that appears totally dead. Kind of a Sailing Uma generation one type of thing. Anyway best wishes. I do really enjoy your videos.

  5. Well you know why your motor is frozen up. It’s hydro locked. Looks like saltwater getting into the cylinder. Pull the head asap you might still be able to salvage it if you get it clean before it corrodes the cylinder too much. Hopefully it’s not a leak in the manifold you just placed on the running motor. If it is it will screw your good motor.. is that coolant cloudy? Should be clear. If it’s white or cloudy you still have issues. I am a certified ASE master mechanic going on 40+ years so if you need help don’t be afraid to ask.

  6. You wintered over in Charleston. If you don't have a signif amt of coolant mixed with water in cooling jacket, it very well could have frozen. If the coolant also froze in the engine cooling lines, it could have cracked your block. I bought a boat previously. It was cheap I thought. Went for quick test drive, all was fine. Finished the deal, took the boat home. Got some friends and went out the next weekend and after about 4 hours in the lake, we noticed a substantial amount of water in the hull. Took it back to the landing and trailered the boat and later found that the engine had cracked block requiring replacement. Bummers!

  7. A few comments. If the new part for the generator does not work and you need to use the inverter generator, you can quiet that generator by installing a larger muffler- either one used in a riding lawnmower or a cheap car muffler- it will cut about 8-10 db.
    As far as electric power- might two 350w solar panels on bimini ( 90-100 lbs weight) plus an additional MPPT solar charge controller, if needed, give you most of the needed extra power generation. As far as sourcing- Sailing GBU got some very good panels in PR at around $.60 /w as I recall 1 yr ago. I've used 60 amp output $150 Make Sky Blue MPPT with smart phone bluetooth on a cat with good results.
    I have a gas Volvo Penta in my powerboat and the mixing manifold (where both exhaust and raw water flow- like yours) went/rusted out. The Volvo Penta replacement was like $900 but an aftermarket one (found online-Sierra brand I think and has a replaceable zinc) was $150 and has worked fine for years.
    The head of my volvo penta was aluminum and one of the exhaust ports was eaten away by hot exhaust gas scavenging- a known issue with my model Volvo. I used a product called Pyro Putty (the aluminum version good to 1200 deg F) that cost $50 and the repair has held up for 10 yrs. It is not waterproof water resistant in any way, so no good for mixing manifold. They make a steel version also with higher temp capability.
    Q- in a pinch, how does your dinghy hip tied to cat perform? given your cat's 28,000 lbs, I would think hip tie performance would be poor/slow but work in a short distance small wave, little wind, no current event.

  8. When you have bad weather coming move your boat to Salt Run and anchor by the lighthouse. No current, lots of protection. Dinghy dock at Conch House Marina

  9. If you have a 12 v battery charger that has a step down transformer then that can supply the excitation ensure correct polarity. The charger needs to be powered from another source but it proves where the fault lies.

  10. Hey great work , there can only be two leaks either the o rings on the heat exchanger or the heat exchanger pipes themselves or the head gasket , can’t be anything else .

  11. I fixed an old generator by running reverse current through the generator motor. Hooked a charged battery negative to positive, positive to negative on generator. While it's off and then it charged when I started it.
