I can't help thinking that no through holes is a mistake. No toilet? Bucket and chuck it? It's not very nice when you are in an anchorage having to throw your bucket over. Will you peeing over the side mid Atlantic? Most MOBs are found with their flies down. Its a pretty tiring existence, having no loo on a boat.
When fibreglassing to ply, its best to make the first thin layer glass mat. This hold more resin than cloth and allows for the ply absorbing some of the resin. After the mat, add layers of cloth. This will give the best bond to ply and strength
what app was that you used to track that storm
One the most special things on this channel are all the nice people coming to Mark to help in different ways. ❤
Maybe you could have a design contest for the plans of cockpit/salon and interconnecting the hulls. A lot of good ideas will probably come too light.
Looks so much like a Wharram ..
Good grind on the holes, but you should always start with the large patch and finish with the smallest.
Hi Mark, love your video’s! We sailed through Amsterdam last week and saw your boat from a distance. Looks really good that way (from a distance 😊) so good luck with this project, I am sure that when you get the rot solved you will have a great boat to conquer the oceans
Stockton Rush you ain’t. You listen and make informed judgement calls on advice received. 😂
How are you doing with your 90/180 Schengen days ?
I've been watching you on and off for a few years. Fantastic the way you have improved your skills, kept costs down, and now spending cash when needed 👍👍👍keep going. I have a feeling you will achieve all your goals and then some.
Fanatic job you did well on those holes I just did not understand how you attached the windows double sided carpet tape? Usually there are stainless steel bolts with stainless steel frames. How will the handle the big waves??
Great job on those Thru hull holes man. One less potential water intrusion point to worry about.
Next time i would switch the order of the glass mats from big to small instead of what done now(small to big). This way if the middle sticks out and you start sanding it down the big mat will be intact and thus give you strength instead of you sanding out the middle part of the big mat.
Mark, just dont get why u cut circle pieces of fiberglass and not square as the fiberglass should at least be much bigger than the holes. U seem to be over it, like no interest anymore, maybe u bit off more than u can chew on this one. 😈
Have you thought about wedging the hole shape outwards mate ? It only takes a small angle 🙏🏽👍🏾
filling holes – imho your best decision so far!
I was always taught largest discs first when glassing over a hole.
It's remarkable how healthy your hull core looks. Keep on keeping on.
F I B E R F I L L ! ! ! NOT BONDO…
How are you staying in the EU? with our lovely BREXIT benefits?
Great work Mark, looking good Johann ❤
Hey Mark, the music has definitely improved in this episode 😀 You'r making this my favourite channel 😉 Being based in Brussels, I hope I'll manage to come over to help you with something later this summer. Keep smiling!
У него бывшая забрала все?
proper job on those thru holes.
Another very interesting episode. I am surprised that there is so much rot in a boat that is not all that old. Whatis it made of? And is the whole boat likely to rot over the next few years? But I expect you have asked yourself that question.
Cheers for the video…sorry, as these comments are after all of your hard work. You may find your backing plates to be ineffective. The main pressure from the water is coming from outside the hull and I feel you would be much better off, digging in deeper into the plywood to make a bigger, divot and filling even the inner parts with layers of fiberglass cloth. Then laying larger flat pieces of cloth across the inside of the hull. These larger flat pieces will create a very good bondage that the wood backing plates will not have. The backing plates would be excellent if the pressure was coming from the inside. But because it will be coming from the outside, they are not going to be very effective, and I think layers of cloth would be much better. Furthermore, on the external side, don't be afraid to really dig in and apply larger and larger pieces of cloth. Any filling I'm hoping is done with a strengthening thickener versus just a thickener… I'm sure you got that. I'm harping on this project because I just finished my sailboat and just got her back in the water. (hoot hoot 💪🏽 hell yeah! 😂)
Keep up the work and remember balance…enjoy moment to moment, don't torture yourself for some future goal. The path way is exceptionally important, never sacrifice present well-being for an unknown future. Keep you goal and intentions clear and stay in the flow…don't worry she will always guide you if you stop to feel, experience, and listen.
Fair winds and following seas – capt'n. 🙏🏽
Those sunglasses falling into place automaticaly😂😂😂
Have you kept in contact with Nidiyana?
WELL DONE ON THE BREAK. YOU NEEEDED IT.
OK CRACK ON…
At last an opportunity to say “ well done!” The work on the holes in the hulls is “ excellent” Your prep work and quality of work is outstanding! Unlike your windows , as you say time will tell, the first big waves and high humidity will see leaks , anyway the job is done now so moving forward hopefully you are receiving great advice and listening to it , Remember Sicaflex 421 is the only silicone to use not some cheap one , it’s expensive but quality otherwise you will end up doing the same job twice.
Please be careful with your cross beams !!!!!! It’s not a matter of chipping out rotten timber and filling with epoxy !!!!!! It’s structural and takes a massive load , please seek technical advice and don’t go offf “ half cocked! “
Good luck to you, make some changes /modification get rid of the lashing system, build yourself a dog house water tight
You are getting there!!!!
I'm guessing you know about stove fuel alcohol to clean up epoxy. Nicer than acetone.
Keep at it mark
In NZ Maori , Mahi means WORK ..you have yours cut out for you..well done mate.
One goal done on to the next … nothing in the world more satisfying to a sailor then knowing the boat you are on is seaworthy and you have made it so … and you get to sail it around the world … 😊😊😊😊
He that can have patience, can have what he will.
Man you always pick hard to fix boats .WHY
Excellent work! You've made great progress. I'm repairing a 1940 seaplane tender constructed of double diagonal mahogany planks and oak ribs. My plan is to fit it out into a liveaboard. Lots of work to be done still and no more than yourself the wet weather is the hardest part. Keep it up!
Watching your video's makes me want to buy a boat. Now I have been looking at yachts for sale and I have started saving.
I think something like Good Tidings or something a tiny bit bigger would be good as my son wants to sale with me.
Please keep the Video's comming, your doing a fantastic job. I hope you have many happy sailing days to come and good luck with your project.
I hope Yoshy is doing great also.
Bag off water can help in tight spaces to weight something down
Filly filly hole!
i’m really curious about this, what are u gonna do for sink drains and the toilet? i mean the toilet i understand to use a compost one even tho i really dislike those but the sink holes?
Been waiting to see your progress.
Well done lad great job don’t let the clever dicks get to you some sad people in this world ,for me you always do things to the best you can with the budget you have and I am sure you will test everything to the far end of a fart before you do any serious sailing ⛵️, waffled on again mark sorry lol 😂
