Well, no Internet, just like cave men.
After cruising in the Med, x-Atlantic and Caribbean, I learned a bit aboard a Nauticat 38. We never had a drop of water come in through the pilot house windows. Once you fix that, lots of things will improve. If you are not a shipwright, I would not get creative for that fix. Just find out what Naticat did, and do that. Water over the bow will not get in. We had wind and rain so hard in the Med that the sea looked like a snow pack. My father said a boat that leaks is anchor; just slower. She will never snap your neck like some lighter boats, and you can get used to her rather gentle motion under worse condition than in the vid.
Nothing teaches you like experience no doubt you will be better prepared next time and won't lose gear over board and everything else. Happy you found a decent anchorage and took some time off.
