Some of them would do better on onlyfans !!!!😎
Lets face it, most of these channels are about getting viewers to part with as much money as possible so the channel creators can maintain a life style that they could not otherwise afford. Just a bunch of e-beggars really!
There are a few good channels out there then there's a few that are downright awful , good ones
Sailing Fair Isle delos wynns ,,the bad Sailing doodles all about products placement and bikinis
I probably have more sailing experience on my Hobie island then these youtube sailors. 😂
Give it too them.. You are spot on.
If you don’t watch parley then whey the hell do you watch it????
You tube sailing channels, you point them out for exactly what they are. I have to admit i was sucked in by them as well. Wonderful enough i found your channel and have been free'd of my delusional dreams. The problem with the sailing channels is this, they allow us who are stuck in the 9-5 daily grind to dream. The dream is to have some hard ships, hot women, and a good time. then sail away to the next adventure and have enough money to cover it all. You burst that bubble and I say ty while others scream and yell because they want their dream back. I wanted to believe it so much and it was always nice to have reinforcement and watch it on you tube. now it is more of a past hobby that i look fondly on. I still want to go sailing though!
Expedition Evans said their boat is no longer salvage, it's on the title, it will always be a salvage boat it will always carry less value than a similar age boat, even an older boat of same make and model will command a higher price. I think one of your friends or patrons bought a charter boat with an issue that was undetected, one of the factors that make boats depreciating assets.
That bun head drives me bonkers Chris. Dumbing down sailing is totally criminal.
I can tell you what happened to the YouTube sailing channels they allow people like you to get on there and badmouth everybody and their mother used to be a day I had some respect for you I don't care how long you been out there in the real world I've been out there for 34 years that doesn't give you the right to talk down about people the way you do I also hold an open-water unlimited tonnage and no restriction Master Mariner certificate that does not give me the right to bad-mouth everybody out there that wants to be or want to be with you know what I've listened to about enough of your mouth I listen to about enough of your insults towards everybody and their mother out there in the real world that is simply trying to live so you know what your subscription no longer exist in my world and I hope there's more people out there that will take the same notion because it's people like you that give the Sailing community a bad name
This is your best video Chris…!
A lot of these types of channels really dont show the sailing. And, when they do, my parasocial relationship ends up being me yelling at the TV to do something super simple and obvious. I remember the one that made me stop with a lot of "sailing channels." I forget who it was, but they were headed dead down in light air with a following sea. They complained about it the whole time. But, they could have just heated it up a few degrees and thrown in a few gybes and it would have been a beautiful sail.
Gee, I thought she looked great in her bikini! But you're right, get that damned thing off!
Some of my least favorite channels. Good job on this one.
Some people get it and some people don't. I've posted comments like this in some of the other videos. Think of sailboats like classic cars. You want to buy the most complete, best condition car to restore or immediately drive. If you buy a basket case, then you will have to deal with all of the major problems that come with a basket case (tons of time and money!). If you buy a less popular model, you will be stuck with scrounging for increasingly hard to find decades old used parts. If you buy a popular model, you are going to be able to obtain reproduction parts easily, but they do add up quickly. You restoration project will probably be sitting on jack stands a lot if you are still working and can't devote every day to it until you are retired. Ask me how I know?
In doing research on cruiser sailboat buying, I've come to the conclusion you want to buy the newest sailboat you can afford. If the boat is over 20 years old, there can be issues getting insurance or a loan. If you can buy it outright, then the loan isn't a problem. Insurance, maybe. That way you are getting some of the most up to date options and electronics on your boat, and it is going to be more complete without Bubba hacking the wiring to add a garbage FM radio. It has had the least amount of time to degrade as all things degrade and the maintenance costs should be lower.
Sailing youtube channels are selling you a "lie", as are most channels that produce similar content. They paint a picture of this amazing life and edit out all of the problems they face that they don't want you to see, and milk the ones that they do want you to see. This channel is trying to slap you out of it and see what's going on behind the curtain. Bikini, drama, cry face, we have an announcement, I can't go on/burnout clickbait is what most of these channels are. Just scroll through their channel videos and you will see the repetition of content over months. Most people never scroll through their catalogs to see it's all the same thing so they keep clicking when the newest video hits their feed. They know how to manipulate people to watch them and get the clicks (as do all successful social media personalities). They also know how to manipulate people for money to afford their lifestyle over time and use money raising campaigns to get the next thing to create new content. Once they get the eyeballs they will acquire sponsors who want them to feature their products. Their $20k dumpster fire sailboats will have $100k+ in repairs, upgrades and sponsored equipment when it is all said and done. Don't follow their path as they have the financial backing to do their videos. You will just have your boat and whatever income you have without a youtube channel and a bunch of people crowdsourcing your lifestyle. That means you have to look at boat buying differently.
Going back to classic cars, remember all of the restoration car shows of the 00's and early 10's? They painted a picture that was much different than the actual experience of owning and restoring a car. These youtubers are not without talent. It does take talent to build a large following and you have to be a bit photogenic. I know I couldn't do it and be successful at it. People just need to be aware before they start making large expensive purchases based off of youtube boat life / van life / homesteading channels.
I’m older and land locked, have idealized sailing the world… Perhaps if I win the lottery or retire I’ll try to find a boat that I can see a bit of the world… I’ve enjoyed “Captain Q” and “Rand-day” for their content, fascinated by “Alluring Artic Sailing” and get a kick out of “Blimp” in Norway refitting his Fisher… tend to avoid the “bikini” sailing channels
😂😂😂love this…
I actually remember when sailing parley revival crossed the equator. They did a live stream when they crossed. Collin has also admitted to a delay in his video release. Same with David, who is or was on sailing parley revival, has his own channel has also publicly said he is behind on video releases.
I think they do this because it stock piles videos for release and makes life more easy to pump out videos.
But as a hole i think your on the money chris.
Well, La Vagabond set the standard and then that show jumped the shark. Everyone just Mimics the standards the set.
What would be good content now though? Info vs entertainment? We will stick to insta!
Haha, Love the burn on these channels. It must be your cynical nature that makes your videos fun to watch.
Most of these people live on expensive cats. Follow Wilding sailing. mark is renovating a wharram.
I think some of these You Tubers should be raising questions has to wether heavier is better when it comes to purchasing cruising ships.
Careful, your Incel is showing. "simp" isn't normal person's vocabulary.
Sailing YouTubers are a bit of escapism for me. On that note, I watch all of them for various reasons. What I like to see are construction/refit channels. Especially time lapses. SV seeker is a fun one. Started from the ground up. That’s cool.
My current favorite refit channel is Spear it animal. But it’s mostly entertainment value.
I like liveaboards, but a lot of them seem to be burning out…like SV Delos.
I’ll admit that bikini thumbnails grab my attention, but they don’t hold it. If the channel isn’t interesting enough, I won’t watch it.
Then there’s the uh realism channels. The salty sailors that strive to show the real side of sailing life. I appreciate that because deep down, I know that for me, sailing is currently a fantasy. But I also like to know what it is that the other channels are hiding or glossing over.
I personally gain a lot from watching a large variety of channels, and I don’t try to base my life on their examples. I could never be a successful YouTube sailor because I lack the charisma and bikini body. 😂
Also, I’ve noticed a scary trend of boat manufacturers selling garbage to people who probably watch YouTube sailors use the same stuff they’re being sold.
For instance, carbon fiber boats scare me now. Apparently they are too brittle. People think carbon fiber is invincible but when you see a racing cat put a hole in another racing cat, both made out of carbon fiber….I mean, that’s not the kind of material I want to bet my life on.
And then, yeah…the electric sailboat stuff is interesting to me, but I don’t think I would 100% want to depend on it.
So, to summarize this lengthy comment, I’m just saying that as a viewer, I take everything I watch with a hefty grain of salt. I’m interested in all aspects of sailing, the design, engineering and lifestyle…all of it. And all of these channels give a glimpse, but not necessarily a wholistic view of the lifestyle. So, they all have their place. There are things I know I would never consider if I were in their place, and from that I take those lessons to heart. Maybe one day I’ll be able to get out on a boat and experience it for myself. 🤷♂️
EE have gotten a lot better at sailing. At first i thought they wouldnt survive. They have gotten a lot more profficent however. Colin really should have had time to catch up. Pretty busy on the 20 plus day Atlantic crossing?
🥱🤡
Like your channel, but calm down fella, little bit hostile!
I hope I'm on of the good guys.. sure il use motor alot..😢
roast me, roast me! my vids are even further behind!!!
ive been sailing for 27 yrs but not full time. i simply can not understand why people throw there $ at these idiots that have zero knowledge of sailing.
YOU HAVE A PROBLEM MATE
Damn you must be bored 😂
Have you ever watched people in a social situation? Restaurants, gatherings, etc.
Husband's and wives, teenagers, young adults all (or most) aren't talking to each other. They're on their phones texting or sending/ watching videos to each other or watching some mind-numbing video with their fantasy friends.
Communicating? At its very minimum.
Is there any you tube sailing channel that you recommend??
Any suggestions on good you tube sailing channels, so i can avoid the woeful one
Since I actually started sailing, I hardly watch any channels anymore. I get off on my reality, which has been in Cabo Verde, West Africa. Where few sailors dare go.
Bro I've been watching you show for a while I like what you do don't get me wrong but now you sound kind of jealous 😂keep doing what you do
I saw a super yacht "chief"mechanic pretend to be a sailboat skipper. He didn't even check the bilges and on his shake down cruise water came flooding in and he had to be rescued. It seemed like he wanted to blame the newbe. He was an absolute 24carat plonker. A hazard. Anyone sailing with him are embarking on a very risky mission. No way would I step on a boat with such a person. He needs check lists at the very least, and to use them before leaving the dock. Needless to say I never saw another of his vids.
I need a Bikini babe
