Great video. Does the Mark-3 hold fairly steady without doing wide S trails? I know some sailors attach a bungee to the tiller to flatten out the S trails.
Great footage of your first longer voyage in WRII. Could you consider putting a small ribbon/tell tail, on the Mk3 vane to help us viewers perceive the wind and it's direction of flow over the vane please?

Maybe I was misled by the video, but when you hove to you seem to have the waves hitting on portside.
Would it have been better to hove to with the tiller and sail on the other side?

I thought to heave to a jib parallel to the rudder is needed. But this seems to work too?! Or is this only possible of the mast position .. basically this could be done on a rigged boat with for-stay only a jib up and rudder in the same positions like on your configuration? I'm not the brightest bulb if anyone knows about good material to point to I would appreciate it very much.

You should try to lock the stove gimbal when not cooking, otherwise it might wear out. 🙏❤💪

Out of curiosity, do you have anything to secure the hatch when it's open?
This is a lovely boat IMO, just right for a solo sailor.
It seems that you’re flirting with .7 to maybe .8 of hull speed, which is really amazing, The boat isn’t even starting to dg a hole and the wake is nice and clean. Also you would think with the center of effort as far forward as it seems to be there would be a strong tendency to yaw one side then the other. There appears to be none of that. Hats off to you for proper loading and a great collaborative design. Looking forward to your continued journey, Cheers!

I've been really looking forward to your first extended trip with little challenges. Great to see how you heave to in a junk rig. Excellently filmed. Thanks for all the little shots of the wind vane and rig and the way you approach a closed hatch from inside. Almost like being there.
I just realized I don’t think I’ve ever seen you discuss the bilge and bilge pumping arrangement. I know the bilge isn’t very deep, but I wonder what you strategy is for that.
another curiosity. I’ve never heaved to, but every diagram of the procedure I’ve seen (for bermuda rigs) seems to rely on the backwarded jib to keep the boat from coming up through the wind. Is there something I am missing. I was looking at your ring, with the one sail and tiller lashed, and wondering why your boat wouldn’t just come up into irons….?

When you're hove to what stops the boat from rounding up? Normally you would back the jib and that would achieve a balance with the tiller lashed over
This is great! I was actually wondering just some day if you can heave to with this kind of boat with just a single sail. I’m gonna have two “mainsails”, but basically same setup. I hope it works there as well.

I'm truly amazed! I've read on a number of "junk rig" sites (some very well known) that it's impossible to heave to with a junk rig. A large number of people say there's no way to do it?!? AMAZING! !

As an ex long distance junk sailor, may I answer the comments on the junk rig heaving-to method? Alan's doing pretty much what I used to do with a single sail. Minimal sail area, strapped in hard amidships, tiller lashed down to leeward so that the keels stall and the boat is making ~ 1 knot forwards, ~ 1-2 knots sideways. Technically not hove-to in the way that a boat with two sails does it, but more like gently fore-reaching.
