1. A guy's not the best way to store the engine, it needs to be closer to the ground. If somebody bumps it you will spend a lot more money to fixing it.

  2. Izzy just wear yellow leave the bad Attenborough Keiran and isn't it about time to take a day off so Keiran can gives his wise insights on the local flora

  3. Great progress and good move on ripping the engine out to go over it and the engine room completely. When you are replacing the engine you might like to look into setting up your cooling system with an easily adapted flush arrangement to flush all of your raw water cooling systems and their entire cooling loops with "Barnacle Buster” in the future. It is brilliant stuff – I managed a marine engineering company on the GC in Qld for a while and we used it extensively on both private and commercial vessels to flush their cooling systems and quite a few vessels had us set up a their cooling systems so that they could easily flush their own systems in future. Basically set up a bypass valve with a remote feed on the raw water intake side of the cooling systems so that you can hook up an external pump and hose drawing the Barnacle Buster from a 20 litre bucket to circulate it through the system and back into the bucket by diverting the the overboard discharge back through a bucket. You can do it for the main engine, the genset and the A/C and refrigeration units. Worth the effort.

  4. Your dreaming… 2 years without any engine problems!! ROTFLMGDAO>>>>>>… no one can even go 1 year with a car engine without any problems, HOW in the HELL do you think that would be anything close with a MARINE engine… you are friggen dreaming!!!!>……….I have owned and still do, several wooden boats (one of them was a 35ft wooden charter boat, used as a ferry and function boat) and there isn't a year that goes by without having to do some maintenance on things that go wrong or break due to use… buy a new motor and even then there will be things that break and need fixing…. I am just watching this to see how things end up …. I look forward to seeing all of this pan out and how far you do get with things… It seems a lovely boat but it is old and needs lots of $$$ and repairs….

  5. Brian had pulled his gearbox just before they went into the Pacific, do you watch his vids for any guidance.
Also, I'd screw some solid planks around the motor stand legs, so they don't move.
I'm interested how deep you're going to go with this motor work, going to be fun to watch.
Ha det så kul och tack för videon

  6. Think I’d be putting some brasses between those legs as one slight knock will have that engine on the ground with a crack in it, might be easy to work on but one slip or accidental nudge and it will go over.

  7. Must be strange for someone walking down the road beside the boat yard where people are working on their boats, to hear the noises emanating from deep within boats.
    Yea baby etc. Lol

  8. You guys are killing it! One thing I can see, is it you have the patience to get things done, and do them right. I think it’s pretty amazing that you got a boat like this for that little money. I think the basic boat is in pretty good shape, And will be a great cruising, boat when you get it all fixed up.

  9. Good luck, I'd vote for puttin extra effort in on the engine room (as well as sails, rigging, navigation, safety) everything else you can sort out later but these are things that it's more difficult to get back to.

Comments below about a worn thrust washer and keeping teh engine in the right gear when sailing seem important and there's otehr comments about things that have failled in the gearboxes.
Keel cooling sounds like it might be a good investment too – I'll let you read about it below but definitely sounds worth considering.

  10. BTW its called a sea chest… not that it matters at all, but a central salt water distribution point is a sea chest. Second viewing of your video, you don't seem to use lubricating oil is that it makes it easier to remove bolts. Still amazing journey. Also could you do a tour of the damage on the vessel? Finally, and most importantly, you are doing EVERYTHING right! Don't listen to anyone about anything, especially the Monday morning Quarterbacks.

  11. All well and good the other comments here about things to check etc, right on.
But, mate – I hope you aren't going to do any work on that engine standing on those vertical timbers like that?
That's a temporary measure for some reason, right?
I do this kind of a thing for a living and not only is possible to break something on the engine when it falls, like how about having to buy a new exhaust manifold and turbo or something, but yours or Isabelle's feet underneath it……learning to walk again with a prosthetic foot will set your project back a lot.

  12. In the long run you are better off replacing the tubing with new.Replace the lines that way you have brand new clean tubing running to all your systems. You will never be able to get them 100% cleaned out. All it takes is one little patch of calcium left inside and it will act as a foot hold for more calcium buildup to start. New tubing you can flush out with calcium buster or barnacle buster once every 6 months or so. Also at this point you have no idea how old this tubing is and if there may be any pin holes in it down the line. Do yourself a big favor and replace with new tubing.

  13. You might want to look into heat exchangers for those units – engine, a/c, etc. That would allow you to run coolant in them and completely eliminate corrosion problems….except for the heat exchanger, of course, which is simple – and cheap – in comparison to an engine. The heat exchanger on my V6 outdrive engine was only about the size of a 2 liter plastic bottle and gave me zero problems.

  14. Quick follow-up on my previous: I've seen inboard engines after long term raw (salt) water cooling and they can be a nightmare – junk only. Not just mineral deposits, but salt corrosion as well. It do make a mess of things.

  15. I'd be inclined to box in those wooden engine stand legs by screwing some planks across them top and bottom so they can't separate easily. Just a few minute's work.

  16. Hello, I send you a website about repair and exploded views of the inverter. Good courage, you are the best.🛠️✌️😉
reparationzfhurth.sitew . Five pages , sorry it is in French language, you must translate.

  17. Every little success you have as you move forward… I get excited for you. I think I'm living vicariously through you. Thank you for bringing us along
