so what you are saying is, we nix up the eploxy for best results? Ok got it Thanks. Good work on the top.
Totally get the light issue. Had two hatch boards for my Cal 29 one like yours and the wooden ones as a back up. Changed the down below experience!
Hard tops coming out really nice. Next time you have to do a fillet get a piping bag or just a regular Ziploc and cut the corner off. I think you may want to reassess the holes for the through hull fittings prior to fiberglassing.
The clear washboard is going to be great in the cold weather. You'll be able to look out and keep the warm air in the boat at the same time.
Yes! I've done same, you're right, it's night vs day, lifts mood. 😊 Sometime, worth trying with Twinwall Polycarbonate, the stuff used in conservatory roof. Its very very light, no risk of injury dropped on toes, and similar thickness to wooden wash boards, and, can be cut 2 sections, with strip canvas, sail cloth, stuck with Sikaflex etc, to make a 'hinge', allow 2 pieces to fold in half, to store … and overcomes rain, wind, seeping through where they butt, at the join.
Looking good,folks 👌
Oliver is growing so much, soon he'll be at the Helm. Lovely episode full of beautifully completed projects.
I'm betting you're going to want to put a colorful window cling on that new entry glass so nobody forgets its there and walks thru it.
Hi….just my 2 pence worth…….before fibre glazing would it of been worth putting some wooden or stainless steel strengthening bars ( flat)….on the top or even the bottom….of the canopy ….maybe bent to follow the Shape …..fibre glass it in….. ..
I didn't see you wipe it down with acetone first BEFORE fiberglassing.
Get a piece of wood that’s just the right, width length and depth to go in to your hatch track. Then cut Datos down the center that or just wait enough to put the plexiglass in then make 45° or whatever is appropriate for the bottom two corners cuts and glue them on to the plexiglass with epoxy. You could then make a board to go across the top, even if it needs to have an arch on it. Basically making a frame around the glass that fits into the slot for the boards that are already going in to close up the cabin.
The window job, at the companionway, looks very nice.
I am an expert in plexiglass. It attracts everything except money. You might find some aluminum beading that can be glued to the plexi. You did an excellent job!
So nice to see you, Melissa! Great projects. 😎❤️😎❤️😎
You could do one of those Hammocks for Ollie, I bet he'd sleep well in one of those 😉
As always, you guys are amazing!
Well done both of you on your various achievements good idea about the window how about rubber seaĺ around the window that should stop the rattles how about a hammock for ollie 😊😊😊
Good stuff Andy
You could put the baby in the veg hammock lol
You should keep your potatoes in a dark place. Otherwise they become poisonous overtime.
We've done exactly the same thing with the film..!
you are telling the story dear I say some thing and you take door to it
Nice smile there when you're chuffed lass.
Outstanding 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Jack is a good loving big brother
With the hatch, unless you give it a rigid strip across the top a blustery wind (or worse, a wave) could make the perspex bow inwards, pop out of its rail, and allow a gale (or a flooding) in through the hatch.
To make it more secure you could fit a T-shaped profile to the vertical sides, with corresponding T channel to run down. Easily doable as you have a lot of play in the channel, so you can construct as additive, aluminium or stainless strips(2) secured to the fascia between the inside and outside of the hatch. And repeat on other side. Gap between strips to fit the width of the perspex, plus a small amount of play.
[Or avoid using in high wind and high seas]
Well done Melissa, on the fruit/vegetable hammock/sling. May need to add some identifiable markers/stickers/trim to the clear lexan. Potentially avoiding accidental iingress/egress ncidents.
Well done on the Perspex hatch door, may I suggest a nice hard wood (available from B&Q) surround, and make two pieces like your wood version, with ‘stable door’ overlap, which would make storage easier ~
Love the hammock, ideal for Ollie ~
I enjoy watching your progress from the start , but Andy don,t talk so much and Lets the images do the talking.
When doing coving try using a spoon instead of the plane know keep up the good work
Great outcome
Nice work guys. Love the clear washboard!
Glue foam around the edges to stop drafts and rattling. Kiss Ollie and Jack for me. ❤😊
Dear Sailing Melody family.
👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work). It is always great to see you being happy. This time especially Melissa for having much more light in the relatively dark inside of Ocean Melody at last. By the way: This is one big fact why I like boats like Steel Melody so much = a light pilot house because of all the big windows. 2) Maybe you can also put plexiglass into the sliding cover hatch? The inside of the boat really profits from having more daylight. The downside might be, that a sheet of plexiglass isn't a good insulator. But maybe a well fitted piece of stiff foam insulation is able to take care of this? At least if you travel/stay in cold climate areas. 3) The pilot cover roof is becoming a good looking piece of art. By the way: The DIY vegetable hammock is a piece of art too. Now all you need to do is to weave a hammock for lil' Ollie too! 😁 😉
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.
Now that was a big smile good girl if you do get scratches on your new window you can use plastic Polish with your dremel or drill just remember you don't get the plastic too hot what is what spoil the plastic but good girl it is good to see you on your kids and your husband having a good time good job👍👍💯💯💯💯 love your channel just remember don't give up
Brilliant they way you and hubby any job 80% it’s not good enough 99% might just pass you’re both so great together both so happy to do you’re bit in getting the boat ready under consideration of children and baby’s I know there children but more need and time to keep happy a great big proud of you both amazing ❤
Dear Melissa, Andy, Oliver and captain Jack,
What a clever idea to make a transparent closing under the shelter hatch of Ocean Melody. Willeke love to see the family on board of the boat and also loves to see how well Oliver is growing. In the meantime Andy is very busy with the roof for the wheelhouse. We’re looking forward to your next vlog and send the whole family love from the Netherlands
Hi Andy have you watched life on the hulls he’s building a glass cat you might get some ideas on glassing from Ross
Queensland Aust
Love the way you just dive in and have a go, awesome stuff!
6 min in makes a LOT of difference. HA, love your reaction at 21min when you have been cleaning it to find the film is still on too, also for a moment thought you were going to put Olly in the Hammock
Mum I don't mean to be cruel or negative but you're looking tired today and I hope you're doing well, my very best regards to you and the 3 kids (2 small one big 😉)
Really nice to see you back on the tools Melissa, and that hatch makes a hell of a difference to the natural light in the boat what great idea 👍👍👍👍
It's not nosey, it's people watching 😂😂😂
Good job Melissa. Light is life!
