Not only is this future iconic mini cruiser able to carry 30+ days of supplies for both singlehanded sailors and a guest, It carries a portable studio in which Alan continues to deliver good content with high production value to all.
I thought you were headed out on a long ocean voyage.
Thanks for for the walkthrough.
So I look up to see how your journey is going (you know boating/sailing) and I get to watch 13 minutes of an add touting some over priced battery pack that you got for free. Well done you.
It always seems odd to me when someone convert DC to AC to that they can then convert the AC to DC. Laptop is a DC Device. The brick converts AC to DC. I suspect there is significantly more power efficient mechanism to DC to DC at the appropriate AMPS/Volts.
hi Alan, it is quite wasteful to convert DC 12v into AC 110, than convert it to DC 5.6(?) again. You can buy a DC to DC converter 12v to 5.6 and plug your laptop directly to it.
I love seeing you back on the boat! Still mind blown watching you on Wave Rover 1, building Wave Rover 2 and now sailing!
I bought a power supply for my laptop that cost about £25 plugs into a 12v cigarette lighter, and every time that I buy a new laptop I send the company an email and they send me a new plug to fit the hole in the computer.
Nice review of your power system Alan. Nasty weather is always a good time to do the house keeping. Have a good evening Alan.
Hi Alan – Congrats on your progress to date – been a keen watcher of your latest build. Was thinking a nice upgrade might be a tractor seat type arrangement that can slot in and pivot under your editing bench for working on the laptop etc.. Just a thought cheers
Skipper, as a long-ish time subscriber one of the surprise joys of watching this update was catching all the inside details (e.g., the back of the deck hand hold thingy just above and to your left) and not only knowing what it was, but how it was made, and why. Your build series was a great survey course on small sailboat construction. Many thanks!
A 13 minute commercial from the minimalist sailor. Also, and possibly related, a shortage of detailed information on Wave Rover 2 handling. You fans hang in there.
Does Bluetti make sunscreen??😂
Very efficient setup that aligns well with your needs. A lot of people seem to really overthink, over design, and over pay for power needs. Glad to see you built a solid system.
Alan a heads up InReach does NOT cover the world. So there are areas that you will not be able to send Mrs. Rover a message from. Recently a boat with 2 aboard was report lost because they stopped reporting in but it was because they were out of a coverage area. An expensive search was mounted for the boat unnecessarily. I like AC/DC : Its a long way to the top, when you wanna Rock and Roll !
This Bluetti device is good as a real "emergency system" – but in the normal conditions, regular USB-C car charger was serving you better. Each conversion (12V DC to AC and AC to 19V DC) "eats" about 15-20 percent, so you end up using only 72% of the energy pulled from the batteries. Where one 12V DC to <whatever USB-C devices will agree between them DC> conversion causing only 10-15% to be turned into a heat.
Bluetti stuff are so expensive it is ridiculous, I know they are providing the stuff free for you, but hey this is ridiculously expensive stuff.
Why dont you have a usb battery operated computer. Inverters are inherently inefficient
Great video do you have a listing of the equipment that you use for video work like cameras laptop software you have? Also I can't get over the gloss of the interior of wave Rover is that an epoxy coating?
