The likelihood that French people would know what "Did you call AAA?" could possibly mean must be so insanely low. Nothing against the French, I'm one of them, but it wasn't even a given that someone would speak English well enough to make a conversation possible.
Nobody can/should watch this without taking a moment to close their eyes a pay respect to James, who so honorably represents the notion of what a sailor should be – honest, resourceful, kind and courageous – a Captain Courageous – A Good-Herated but true Salty Dog.
What word did they spraypaint on the side of the abandoned sailboat? I couldn`t quite exactly read it. Did they leave some kind of a message for the people that will discover the boat one day? Did they leave on a solar powered light somewhere? Or just simply; did they leave a contact phonenumber, anything else?
Is there a tracking device on the abandoned boat so You can follow its way?

So sad, I wonder if a keel stepped mast would have made a difference. The comfort ratio on that boat must have been really low for it to rock back and forth so much.

So for 2 years I have been working on a
" Batonned Pyramidic " Sail system for Ocean crossing vessels in case of a disaster exactly like these folks had.
All you need to attach the system is a Toe-Rail or Stanchion bases.
It allows you to sail all but upwind. ( obviously)
To date we've achieved 4knots in a 41' Morgan out island mastless , in 18-20 knot winds and 2-3ft seas…
Although a ways from perfected , we hope summer of 2024' to have a few dozen kits ready to sell.
The storage bag is 32" long and 18"x18" rounded
Hope we can test it to be 99% reliable in all weather conditions for all scenarios.

I was one of two people on a boat when the mast broke. What caused it was the shroud on the starboard side came out of the spreader arm releasing tension on the starboard side and tension transferred to the port side causing it to collapse to the port side of the boat and into the water.
