  1. Great video. As a Norwegian I hope to see this vessel around soon, I'm sure it's going to be a great ship. I am guessing the fact that Røkke previously owned the Vard shipyards for a decade is part of the reason he chose this yard. The owner recently moved to Switzerland due to a new Norwegian tax proposal of boats and planes owned by private companies, this would save him up to 50 million Euro per year in taxes.

  2. Just read about Rev Ocean, there are rumours that they may use GMC's drydock in Stavanger. But nothing is certain of yet. If they wanna go somewhere else, it will be an long journey to either The Netherlands or Germany. I live close to Stavanger btw.

  3. When I saw the yacht for the first time it was very clear that it was top-heavy.
This is what happens when furniture designers are allowed to design yachts.
Extra ballast tanks and 2 levels less (not just 1 level) might do the trick. No need to cut the ship in half.

  4. The engineering and technical skill that goes into building and modifying these yachts is mind blowing. Splitting the ship in half and then welding a new section into the middle, while maintaining structural integrity … wow. That's a lot of folks with a lot of skills.

  5. I sailed a supertanker that was enlarged by cutting just in front of the house, and adding another cargo tank area. . besides some of the deck gear being duplicated, the rudder than became a little too small for the ship, so it didn't handle well, and the amount of anchor chain now needed barely fit in the same old lockers.  A deck hand had to go down and guide the chain in so it would fit, with the danger being that if the chain started to run out, instead of being winched in, he would be killed.

A lot of the old WW2 merchant ships were extended after the war because the GE steam electric plants ran pretty much ran forever, but they were slow. They had a single big giant 10,000 hp electric motor turning the directly connected propeller shaft , like a Childs toy boat.

  6. I will never understand how wealthy people can afford to be price driven versus quality. As you said giving the job to Lurssen would have ended up being cheaper with a timely delivery

  7. @eSysmanSuperyacht Have you seen this row boat made to look like Jeff Bezos's face? The creation is mesmerizing, artistry is just amazing, and the video is… quite a journey.

  8. I live in Scotland. I was in the Merchant Navy as a teenager, and had studied navigation/ship stability etc.
In late 1987 I was working in Greenock, a famous town on the River Clyde. You will be aware that the Clyde has a great history of ship construction going back to the 19th Century.
One lunchtime I went with a couple of colleagues to watch the launch of a newly built ship at the Appledore Ferguson shipyard. It was intended to service Firth of Clyde locations, and the Western Isles.
It all went swimmingly … er … I mean no-one had to abandon ship!
Shortly afterwards the engineers realised that something was wrong – it was sitting lower in the water than it should have been.
It transpired that there had been an error in its construction – it was 2 m shorter than designed!
The solution? Bring it back in, cut it in two, and weld in the 2 m middle section.
