Sunt Youtuberii navigatori doar beți? Ep 253 - Lady K Sailing

1. Good for you recognising you had a problem. But cruiser's with a drinking problem are few, yes we can party and sometimes too much. But please don't paint jaded picture due to your own issues. I like many may go for weeks without a drink and when I and many others do drink we don't drink to get drunk.😢

  2. Thankfully I have the Liver enzyme that turns alcohol into a really precious food that delivers an extremely pronounced Bell Curve of Health Advantage to people with that enzyme. This is why Beer in Britain was never Rationed in Britain during the Second World War, as it was too important for the Diet. Unfortunately, as a Motorcyclist, I pretty much got out of the habit of drinking, and now I don’t drive anymore, I’m really struggling to drink enough every day to assist my Health. I’ve always loved drinking good quality drinks, and my favourite is good quality Cider, as I never get even tipsy on it. My first job after School, was in a Cider Works in Somerset, and you could help yourself from the production line or go to the Canteen where there were two Large Barrels, one for Dry Scrumpy, the other for Sweet Scrumpy, and you could go and fill your glass any time you wanted, so while there, I got through the period where drinking Scrumpy got me even Tipsy. As a Barman in the area, I found out that the elderly Farmers, were averaging about 32 – yes thirty two- pints of Scrumpy every day, in their late 80’s and into their 90’s, these guys were the pictures of robust, and even Rude Health, and as solid as brick outhouses. The Landlord was asked by them if he thought they should cut back on the Cider, and looking them over he said No, you carry on doing exactly what you are doing, and for a while at least, switched from Gin & Tonic to drinking Scrumpy, though looking at my neighbour’s Surgeon Father, who had been in Gin and Tonic, after being a Surgeon for the Chindits behind Japanese lines, Teddy was as fit on Gin and Tonic as the farmers on Scrumpy. Beware though, if you don’t have the genetics for that Liver enzyme, keep well clear of alcohol. If you have the enzyme, just avoid rubbish alcohol, like the designer Crap, and in Britain Stella Artois Lager which has the Wife and Husband beating violence additive in it, and you should be fine. Bob. 👍⛵️🌟🌟🌟❤️

  3. I have been curious about this but in a different way. I don't drink. I never really have drunk alcohol, it is a massive trigger for a cluster headache (picture a headache that feels like someone is stabbing you with an icepick through one of your eyes and out the back of the other side of your head. I was shocked to find out that this is a prominent name for cluster headaches. My stomach also doesn't break down the alcohol, and therefore I get a stomach ache way before I get drunk. So not only do I not get drunk, but I suffer a massive amount of pain from it, and yes I consider this a blessing.) When I watch sailing channels I see a lot of alcohol being shared in anchorages with non-YouTubers too. This has concerned me because as a non-drinker when I go places where people drink they seem to "NEED" to freaking try to convince me to drink with them. WTF? So I have been wondering if being a non-drinker will in fact cause me to be an outsider? Not like I am going to start drinking, but this is a very frustrating part of our society that drunks consider it okay to berate someone into drinking!

  4. Thanks for sharing your story Tim. I can’t remember ever hearing a message anywhere close to this on any Sailing channel – so good on you! I look forward to meeting you some day out on the water!

  5. I am looking forward to sailing full time.

I am lucky I am not a fan of being drunk… not tea-total and not against alcohol.

I’m looking forward to fresh juices etc.

So intrigued who the You Tuber was…

And well done for staying on the wagon.

  6. I more than relate to this. It is an evil that like you… and I like it …a lot! It is a struggle to control its urges. It is socially acceptable, and more. It is omnipresent. Yeah!

  7. By far the — best!! — explanation I have ever heard on this topic as it relates to the sailing culture. Case in point: I switched to “de-alkalized” beer a few years ago at our sailing club. That way I still get to be part of the camaraderie but without the nasty side effects of alcoholism and its severe long-term impacts on critical internal organs such as the liver, kidneys and pancreas.

  8. I watch allot of sailing shows and fully agree
Now at my Yacht Club East of Toronto there are some who drink more than others .
Agree on the none drinking I did the same a couple years ago. Do not even miss it

  9. Lets all sign together…
100 bottles of beer on the wall. 100 bottles of beer.. pass one around, and there's 99 bottles of beer on the wall…. 99 bottles blah, blah blah..

  10. Funny, when you started talking about meeting your hero’s, I knew EXACTLY who you were talking about. I won’t out them, but given the personality traits you mentioned I can completely understand your disdain for them.

  11. We were still in the yard when we observed that behavior can go dangerously sideways under the influence. We saw lots of people drinking too much and not moving forward on their projects. We were heading in a bad direction, too, and made extra effort to get out of the yard to get away from those triggers to drink. And I very rarely drank before joining the sailing community. Like, maybe twice a year.

A couple months after splash down, we ran away to another community. Alcohol is still everywhere, and people really push it, but we understand very clearly that alcohol is not helpful to our goals. We want to be active, healthy, and to move forward. We remind ourselves every day of our objectives and are actively abstaining. Thank you for talking about this problem so openly. It's real, and it's insidious.

  12. I understand where you are coming from. I still struggle some days, but there are many more days that are far better. I hope you can reach out to someone when things get tough and, if you slip not hate yourself for it. Hang in there.

  13. Just bought a Beneteau 411 yesterday in Rhode island. It is a fixer upper so it will take some time to get ready. Hope I see you down in the Bahamas next winter. Love the videos and keep up the good work. When I buy you a beer it will be an NA type 🙂

  14. I'm spending 3 months at sea against 9 at land for a while… as frequent drinker at land, I always fill my boats storages with almost every kind of soft drinks & liquors at the beginnng of the season (june mostly)… and 3 years in a row, %80 of non-beer bottles comes back home with me without opening a lid… I need less alcohol at sea than I need at land.. surfing over a wave at 25kts of wind or stairing stars at deck in a moonless night is fascinating enough and makes you high without any catalyser needed I guess…

  15. It's rarely pleasant to be around drinkers when, like me, you don't drink. But damn, do be a hammered alcoholic and think someone is a problem!?!?! WHOA! Honestly makes me feel super sad for that man. I hope peace finds him!

  16. Lived in South America a couple of years before coming out to Asia. In both regions there's many many retired expats with this exact issue. You can see them in the beach front bars all day everyday. There's one across from my gym and every morning I see them filing in around 10/11am to start their day of drinking and chain smoking. Glad to see it when people get better, rare but awesome!

  17. Sage advice, in my younger years I dropped enough cash on alcohol to buy a boat, the boat I wish I had now. “Free your mind and your ass will follow”

  18. 20 min video ,once a week.one sunset, one sundowner ,cooking one meal ,sightseeing, snorkel, scuba ,dolphins, whales, bikini or skinny dip and fix something (probably understated )so many channels ,so similar ! Booze why not if we are seeing the highlights of the week !not dissimilar from cottage life ,rv life ! Sailed small sailboats for over 40 years in Canada can’t drink on the small boats ,enjoy a good day of sailing ,go home to sleep,no roll! Winter is for travel ! Sorry for venting enjoy your channel !

  19. I've been pleasantly surprised by the improvements made recently in no or low alcohol beers, if you enjoy the taste of a cold beer but can do without the side-effects I suggest you check out Athletic Brewing's "Run Wild IPA". .05% alcohol, great taste, and only 65 calories per can, what's not to like?

  20. I live far away in Poland , I don't have a boat of my own and I will probably never go sailing in the Caribbeans but when I first came across Lady K YouTube channel I immediately fell in love with it. Now I know better why. This guy is such a nice and sensitive dude and deep at the same time that it really speaks to my heart. Plus it is like reading Jack London's stories – the magic of far away lands. Good work Lady K, good work!

  21. I've been watching your videos for a couple of years , i really appreciate that fact that you seem to care a lot about sailing and people . Im a trucker a have 4 children soo just the idea of buying a sailboat is not in the cards for me because i struggle every dayy just pay my bills . Anyway Tim ,as fellow Canadian ive been clean and sober for more 35years and my life has been nothing gratitude for being sober . If i will the lottery i call you for advice on what boat to buy. Take good care of yourself just for today

  22. Very true Tim everyone in the Anchorage says it’s cheaper to drink beer than other things. But very correct the drinking starts afternoon and ends at bedtime nearly daily.

  23. Well done! You approached a difficult subject with real concern and no judgment. One of the best captains I know becomes another person after that 2nd drink. There is always that 2nd drink. Then every night is like new years eve. I won't sail with him anymore because of it. Many of us have stories of struggle and loss with family and friends who are dealing with substance abuse issues. Thank you for sharing yours and offering perspective. I will look forward to sharing a harbor with you one day. I make a mean ginger/lime iced tea. Cheers.

  24. Thanks for posting this, very insightful. For me it is also a reminder that boating (or sailing) can be boring; a lot of channels focus on the excitement and novelty of sailing, and not many mention that a lot of the time you are just sitting on the boat at the dock or at anchor. As I prepare for my semi-retirement in the Caribbean, I'll try to make sure that I keep busy, do a bit of work unrelated to sailing, in such a way that I will enjoy that glass of rum comes Friday night.
