  1. When making antenna connections, try to use silicon grease around the inside of the thread. With connections like ‘N’ type, you can pack the outer ring ( not the anode pin, or stinger as some US folks may call it). Once the connection is tight, use self-amalgamating tape (you stretch it and wrap it on itself and it forms a waterproof and UV seal) and it should give you good service intervals (I’d check every time you are up there), but have a preventative maintenance inspection routine for everything up there every few months or so. Those materials are relatively cheap and readily available, certainly will be in NZ or can be ordered on-line. The shows remain great and get better and better. How is the ‘tap of glee’ holding up?

  2. Welcome to the joys of warmer climates. Weavel larvae is common place in the islands in flour, rice and pasta even when you buy it from good supermarkets. If you freeze the flour, rice and pasta for 24 hours it kills the larvae. Believe it or not you can still use the pasta and rice, just wash thoroughly before cooking and all the weevils float to the top of the water. You’ll never clean them all out but you can buy bug bombs in the supermarket that will fumigate the boat in 4 hrs and keep infestations down. It’s a regular part of life in the tropical climates.
    Great video as always

  3. Out at sea or on land, I do not care ,i love your videos!….(Stay off the pills Luke.)Keep feeding the dogs….👍..Wishing you all the best

  4. as always enjoyable episode Great work top of the mast. I thought that replacement was for AIS only as you had VHF signal OK, if this is correct was a splitter cheaper to allow one antenna for both VHF and AIS. Watch out for the cable entry from above without a loop as water will run down the cable and enter the mast. agree with other comments on anticorrosion etc Stay safe and fair winds

  5. Great video, seeing the work you carry out on Atlas to keep it maintained is nice to see. The bugs made me cringe though 😂😂. Auntie Kath said those steps to the top is the sort of thing I’d find for her to climb, she hates steps 🤪🤪

  6. Personally I reckon that aerial is too long & whips too much. Would be OK on a MOBO but it will be waving about a lot & unfortunately may not last. Hope I am wrong. I would suggest a reserve one on the aft rail on a short pole for emergencies. It would give 10 mile range for the AIS & VHF minimum if only 5 ft high- Mine does.

  7. Reminds me of Greek island hopping – fresh bread, cheese, tomatoes that smelled of strawberries, eaten while sitting on the ground every lunchtime loving the magic of life!

  8. If you've got flour or cereal on your boat then you've got weevil eggs aboard. I read somewhere once that there is an allowable percentage of bug eggs per kilo on certain food items. Enjoy your porridge and your bread boys! The greedy dog was suckling puppies, that's why the poor thing was so keen on the food I reckon. Nice episode as usual boys. Safe travels.

  9. Weevils – I grew up in S.E Asia and honestly, I ate lots of them (smaller flour weevils). Just get some air tight containers and you’ll soon get rid of them… we used to pour the milk on cereal, give anything a chance to crawl out for a minute or two, then just start eating and not look too closely!

  10. Nice job, hanging on a wire in the mast! One small bit of advice, use self-amalgamating tape, wrapping the antenna plug (the copperbit). Moisture will kill the connections, give loss of signal and so on. Such dogs where called gladakker in Dutch Indonesia and now stands for ¨nasty person, unreliable¨. These dogs have a miserable life and bless you for taking care.

  11. Hi Boyos! For extra protection against corrosion on your aerial connection wrap it in Denso tape. Is a petroleum impregnated cloth tape. Use gloves tho!!

  12. You reminded me of the lines in Master and Commander about choosing the Lesser of the two Weavils.😂
It would be wise to get a couple cans of bug or insect killer spray and have a feild day killing bugs, and a big bedding clean up.
Gouda & Edam are my favourite cheese, I eat 3x 10 slice packets a week, not to mention what I use in cheese sauce when making brocolli or Cauliflower & cheese sauce.
    Great video.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇮🇪

  13. We put Bay leaves in flour and rice to deter the weevils. No evil weevils. Remember you can eat from a rusty can, but not the stuff on the bottom of the can.

  14. Excellent video guys. Very funny bug episode. Vacuum sealers are good as is microwaving stuff from places where storage and sales turnover isn't optimal. The bugs are common in many foods and don't taste terrible. Call that a spider. Australia awaits.

  15. The aggressive dog my have been feeding pups. Were they stainless rivits on stainless plate into an aluminum mast?
Remove all labels from cans prior to bringing on the boat. If you refill bags then put in some nitrogen prior to sealing.
    Great video thank you

  16. You two cannot get more impressive! Brilliant Sailors, Intrepid Adventurers and DOG LOVERS to boot! What Fantastic Ambassadors! Enjoy your travels and stay safe!

  17. Hi Guys I think you should do a best of food fails😅 The horrible pizza, the rusty corned beef, the porridge blizzard and the pasta weevils 😂 There must be more😂

  18. I've heard that removing the labels on tin cans is a prudent thing to do – roaches and other insects lay eggs under them…. use sharpie to identify food in can….. duuuuhhhh!!!
