  1. Have a proper marine surveyor inspect the damage. Fiberglass is almost infinitely repairable and I have seen huge amounts of damage done to boats that were ran onto rocks, they were fixed and still in service. It’s a terrible situation to be put in, but you’ll get through it.

  2. 😒 I'm not sure what to think about this repair thing. Some one wrecked a good boat and then you guys left with a repaired boat. I would prefer a replacement boat. You will always see from the inside that the boat has had damage in the past, that's a market value thing i think.

A gelcoat damage is something else than a broken bulkhead and deck delamination.

  3. Thank goodness you are both physically unhurt. Very sorry for the damage to "Cuba". I'm sure she'll be good as new in time. Stay strong. You have faced some considerable challenges. You got this.

  4. Heartbreaking to hear about SV Cuba [your home] being crashed into by a catamaran! I truly feel for you guys! However, most pleased you're both safe and have remained level-headed throughout the ordeal! 👍
For what it's worth here's my take. Putting the catamaran's gear cable malfunction aside, I do question the captain's decision to embark on high-speed maneuvers in a large open expanse of water so close to other yachts. Had the captain proceeded with caution and kept sufficient distance from the other yachts he would've had ample time and space to take avaisive action. This is plain and simply a case of poor seamanship and was totally avoidable in my view. Btw, where were the lookouts to help direct the captain in all of this? Won't surprise me if alcohol was involved?? Guess, you couldn't get close enough to the captain to smell his breath?? Either way, I would ask him and the crew directly if they perhaps had been intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Don't forget, you have each-other so, stay strong! 💪

  5. Míralo como una dificultad y NO COMO UN PROBLEMA, ENFOCARTE EN EL SEGURO TUYO, PÓLIZA, FECHA Y TIPO DE NAVEGACIÓN Y REGIÓN, HAZ ÉNFASIS EN LA REGIÓN Y ACCIONA CONTRA EL SEGURO DEL OTRO, DEBES TOMAR TODA LA DOCUMENTACIÓN DEL CATAMARÁN Y LA DE TODA SU TRIPULACIÓN (TODA) INDIVIDUALIZA AL PATRÓN, NO PIERDAS TIEMPO EN UN MULLE PORQUE DINERO CORRE, ES MEJOR QUE CORRA EN UN ASTILLERO Y SE ANEXE A LA DEMANDA. NO SE TE OCURRA PELEAR O DISCUTIR, SI ALGUIEN SE NIEGA A DARTE INFORMACIÓN DENUNCIARLO EN UNA COMISARÍA POLICIAL Y EXIGE LA INFO. YA TIENES LA EXPERIENCIA QUE HACER. BUENA SUERTE.

  6. First, no one was injured…..the boat…hmmm I think you might have some major issues there…I hope you are able to get it repaired in your area…and they know what they are doing…most of all I hope the insurance companies come through for you…..be safe and chin up

  7. Sorry to see this happening. Obviously not your fault but always such a hassle and pain in the back side. If that was a car it's likely the insurance company would just writen it off

  8. in such conditions drop the camera and push.

Head to trinidad or Grenada. Call ahead if theres any haulout and space in those marinas. It wouldnt be much load on the bulkhead if you take it easy on the passage to haulout. Other country/marina Which would solve the Visa issues in the meantime.
Survey documentation, use the video as evidence and send it to the insurance company of the other boat owner. They should cover the expenses of haulout and repairs.

  9. What a pain and what a nightmare to be dealing with trying to get all these repairs done correctly and in a reasonable amount of time. I know it is all fixable but the problem is where and how long. This is your home. Does insurance cover hotel expenses if you have to stay somewhere for an extended period of time assuming you can even get the repairs started?
