  1. It was an amazing experience and privilege to make land fall at Cape Cod and to transit the Cape Cod canal. At this point I was 8 days into this passage and feeling very comfortable with Wave Rover. In retrospect I realized that I was being very conservative with Wave Rover whilst at sea. But the camera doesn't really capture what the weather and wind was like and despite being a great sailing area there was a distinct lack of other sailboats in this area. Sea Hawk, my weather man would later report and show me a screen grab of 50 kt gusts just south of my position. At no time did I feel in danger but I was trying to stay well rested so as to be alert when making landfall. This was part of my reasoning for being conservative with the reduced sail plan, that, and I was really just getting to know WR while shaking her down.

Thank you as always in your continued support of the Channel.

  2. Welcome to New England! Besides growing up in the Stonington area I also went to school. at Mass. Maritime Academy on the west end of the canal. So this transit is like old home time for me. I must say I have so enjoyed this channel for the past two years.

  3. Great video of the passage. What kind of watch schedule did you find work? or do you hove to and take a long rest?
I'm thinking of a passage in the gulf of Mexico, lots of oil rigs to dodge – some have AIS.

  4. Hi Alan !
Well done so far. Lovely to see you “ on the road again “.
Perhaps I have missed it but it would be very interesting if you could share with us your choice of equipment onboard. Your navigational aids and the power to keep it all running while sailing through solar panel for example is of great interest.
All the best for now and take care, Tom

  5. You are not allowed to transit the Cape Cod Canal under sail. At least last time I transited it (30 years ago) there were signs at either end stating that all vessels must transit using mechanical propulsion. I recall transiting it once with my father and his friend Toby on a classic Herreshoff Fishers Island 31. The engine quit halfway through. We drifted with the current while Toby bled the fuel line. Thankfully it started up again.

  6. Superb Alan! A delight to see WR2 munching the miles. That Tohatsu 6hp is a fine engine. Keep going. Ardderchog!

  7. Cape Cod was a really interesting and welcoming place when we visited in the fall of 1988. The colours of the trees were amazing.

Have you seen the Northern Lights so far on this trip? They have been quite a long way south in the UK but not quite far enough south for us.

  8. Well done captain. no need to push the boat to the limit and break stuff, it's not a race. Great adventure enjoy the videos 👍

  9. Love watching you sail in to Cape Cod – sending a big wave to you and my cousins who live on Cape Cod and Nantucket!! I've been to Cape Cod a few times and to Nantucket once – both so beautiful! Enjoy that salad and burger!!👋👋👋

  10. Alan I was wondering what type of sleeping bag do you use when sailing…I would think that a down bag would keep you warm but not sure how they would hold up in a damp sailing environment?
