The reality of Irish sailing
The land affects the wind so much a forecast is almost worthless. Further out it tends to be better but there always seems to be more wind than forecast. And what's with the dinghys? I see little kids hooning around solo in conditions I wouldn't dream of taking the boat out in.
A sailors life, not enough wind or just way to much.
I remember a time when we sailed from Trinidad to Martinique, a multi day sail.
Forcasts were good until we were a a point furthest from land possible (more than 100 miles) when a unexpected stormfront hit us.
Off course it was during the night on my shift, I woke up the captan and we reefed both sails, just a handkerchief of Genoa out and the main to its third reef. Winds were blowing force 7-8 gusting to 9. It was sporty and wet we still did 9 knots, it was raining sideways not a dry place in the cockpit to be found. Luckily it was in the sub tropics so it wasn't really cold.
One thing for sure I was glad it was on a Oyster 56 so the boat could handel it well, but the humans inside didn't do as good.

40 Knts in anyone’s log is not good. I always trust the forecast, to be wrong, what’s your problem. Stay safe
We never get the weather right. We are always getting caught out and a lot of the times the forecast are not even close

Gosh your summer (!!) has been a challenge all right. Don't blame yourselves for going out to sea, worth a try but also great not to continue.

This summers def not been the best. Annual marina fees in Dun Laoghaire though seem really fair compared to the UK south coast. I had considered a move but its bonkers, just bloody impossible to find accommodation, would they allow liveaboards? Looks really lovely round the Cork area
