Maybe you mentioned it already, does Bass has a channel to follow his lifeboat project?
I've seen boats that have "Outboard " motors located in enclosed compartments at the back of the hulls – with a hatch over the top. I've even seen this done in a 27 foot monohull. Super easy, close to waterline depth, so you just need a bit of build up for that depth and the motor mounts…
Those existing mounting systems look "fragile" & exposed…and not looking nice estheticly.👍😶
That angle grinder stand looks like it would be useful for cutting up that food block too! Thanks for an interesting and enjoyable instalment.
Great stuff, that aircon unit looks good I live on my boat & will be having a look at that for sure. Bifacial panels are useful for if you ever end up anywhere with two suns innit…
That was some perfect metal drilling… Nope, spoke too soon. 😂
Mark, please go ahead and do the ads and open yourself up to sponsors. We really don’t mind you having the added revenue streams and watching the ads and hearing you do sponsor reviews is one of the few ways those of us who cannot be a patron can still help support you. With your followers and viewer counts, you could easily get free engines, equipment, marine paint, fiberglass products, etc. Andy even got a free electric bike. You can always change your mind later when you don’t need the money. Reach out to Mads, Matt from Duracell and Andy to get advice on which products to accept.
The red engine in the liferaft is a Bukh. It's a danish engine and is one of the most reliable marine engine you could ever put into a boat. The engines are used all over the world for safety.
I've been in the British Merchant Navy for over 30 years now, and the Dutch are the best seafarers
I've been watching your project for a while. Good luck with it.
01:49 The most important thing on board is a good lawn mower……
I think another option when cutting threaded bar is a thread-repair file. They're files that have teeth spaced to match the pitch of the screw thread. A few passes should recut and straighten the damaged end.
You are using a grinding blade to cut. You need a thinner cutting blade. That blade is trying to take out too much material.
For your rubber skiff. You might want to consider tying long fore & aft spring lines as well as long bow and stern lines while working from your small boat. The more lines the bettah brah!!
Nice editing… cheers
Ha ha, not jog on….plod on. 😂 mate who cares you are doing it, well done. Have a frign rest.
Such ah gorgeous boat fer ah gorgeous lad <3 So much hard work being put in day after day tae bring this beast back tae her glory she once had. <3 Dinnae stop tha love!
After a Friday from hell I only got to see your video tonight but it never fails not to cheer me up. Thank you Mark 😊
Coming together nicely.
Sorry I know you just assembled the engine nacelles but I think a bit of stainless tube used as a Bush and tack welded into each of the holes where the threaded rod is inserted particularly on the hinged points would add some longevity with less maintaince and stop the whole thing getting sloppy when the holes and rod wear, a job for when you get the boat back in the UK maybe…?
Oh and as you showed at the start of the video all the frozen water gathered in the nacelles, how big are the drain holes, remembering when you're sailing the oceans that waves will no doubt be depositing a lot of water into the nacelles at times and it will need to drain away freely
Cold rainy weather and boat restoration, Man it definitely adds to the challenge, paint wont dry, epoxy at times doesn't cure and surface preparation "clean, dust and moisture free "… forget it 😂
Take care Mark
Small steps that's all that's required.
Cheers
Soooo, THE points which will be must under stress will be the pivoting points of the engine 'buckets'. Those bolts will have to transfer ALL the engine forces (forward, reverse!!) to the boat.
Are the holes reinforced?
This to Dam hard to watch , this poor kid is just seems to be spinning his wheels . God love him but please have someone buy him a sail that 8s in good shape and just needs a little love . There thousands of sails out there , that need minor work through divorce etc, in a slip that someone would give to kid like this for cheap . Please come out of the woodwork and give him a sail that just needs cleaning and everything works. Help him please.
probably too late, but for future note. When cutting steel especially in a fixture like that doing clean, though lines, use the thinner ceramic discs. They're more prone to breaking free hand, but less heat and easier to cut through thick pieces in a fixture.
Mark the way you presented the advert was very enjoyable to watch and it wasn't as if you were forcing it on us.
Mark can you run it on the cold settings to see how cold you can get the boat ?
Don't worry about the Moaning mate. Your a Pom. Your supposed to Winge. Doh! Nice a bit of Kit that Ecoflow heater/dehumidifier/ Cooler. Nothing worse than a damp stinky boat. I leave a little Electric Fan heater on in mine. But thats on Shore power. Stops the root too, keeping damp out. Slowly but surely wins the race. Keep going at your own pace. By all means go home and charge your batteries for your Soul. You'll be chomping at the bit to get back to Mahi in no time. Kiaora.
You are jiving large Mark , well done sir .
i like your videos, your learning while doing. Small tip: use a cutting disk instead of a grinding disk when cutting steel. They are very cheap. Try it. Good luck
Dear Wildling Sailing.
👍👌👏 Well done! Glad to see that you found friends. I nevertheless hope that you will be able to take Mahi out of the water and under a roof soon. 2) After watching you struggling to cut the threaded rod, I wonder if you had the correct cutting discs on the angle grinder. There are special ones for cutting stainless steel! 3) The rescue boat remodeling sounds very interesting. 4) Congratulations!🎉 It's really fantastic that Ecoflow is supporting you so much. Always having damp clothes and shoes is definitely no fun.
Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health in particular.
Hey mark can you check if that disc on your grinder is a grinding or cutting disc, it looks suspiciously like a grinding disc:)
Enjoyed this episode. You’re doing a great job!
I like your motor mounts. Motor can be raised and lowered according to the tide. Up for high tide , lowered for low tide. Well done mate.
Don’t worry about complaining about the the weather. It’s in the DNA of Poms.
Hi, it seems you were using a grinding disc instead of a cutting disc on your angle grinder, tht's why it heated so much!
Keep going Mark! Enjoy your break 🙂
EcoFlow products are absolutely great they are expensive but you get what you pay for.
you got a power station between bluetti and ecoflow, nice equipment
you could use a spirit level if the boat was out of the water and level
Hi Mark. Maybe others have mentioned this. You need to use a cutting disc on your angle grinder. 1or 2mm thick. What you are using is a grinding disc. Not for gutting. That's why it's getting hot.
Ever wonder why a massive view count on some channels make less money than those with lower view counts?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zbtf9QUg6Go
Use cut off disk's. Your using grinding disk's which is why you are tempering the steel. Love the channel 😊
Keep up the great work, the dream is worth it. Also, one day when you’re bored, ask your neighbor for a tour of his Nauticat. Lovey those things!
If you want to make the engine mount brackets more rigid, do not connect long cross beams, but short diagonal parts within one pair of brackets. These could even be flat steel, because as a cross pair, they are only loaded with pull forces.
Almost reminds me of Annapolis
Those lifeboats would make good party barges or water taxis….Like the old C/K Ration cereal bars….
Fyi for those wanting to skip it, the advertisement runs form minute 13 to minute 21,,,
Engine box support nis SKETCHY, basically two aft facing scoops one significantly sized following sea could remove it (and engine(s) IMHO
getting closer
Those bifacial panels work best when propped up to where the sun can get to the back side (from sun's reflections from, say, the top of your boat or the water). Nice gear! 😀
You're doing great!
to get a load of nuts on a bar, just start them one end and connect the rod into a drill chuck and use the drill slowly. So much easier than a Threader and you can round over the cut ends with the grinder as well.
