  1. Always great news when you upload another video dear Hazel! Another marvellous video, this time braving that dreaded troll's moat blocking the UK's access to the Med and the southern wonders. I have nightmares about trying to get past that place to reach the sunshine, and hoping you can help to dispel them in these videos. The single-handed bit is especially amazing because at some point you need to sleep. Am also fascinated by the VHF bit as I doubt that unless you're fluent in a lingo you could fathom out what they're saying through a radio speaker and a dodgy signal. Will be watching and learning for when I retire to sea (and learn to sail!) next year. Anyway, as always thoroughly enjoying your wonderful videos. Stay safe dear Hazel!

  2. Nice sailing..As a solo sailor, never be afraid to add too many reefs in the sails… Be careful with the loose lines in the cockpit, specially sailing solo, you might look into making dedicated storage bags for the cockpit..
Merry Christmas and for sure a prosperous 2024 with a lot of adventurous sailing..

  3. I really admire your seamanship, Hazel. Crossing Biscay single-handed is no mean feat. Congratualations! And I think the best pep-talks are the ones that we give ourselves. Best wishes to you and your family. – Chris

  4. Great vlog 👍. Always look forward to your next episode. I find the technical details very interesting. Thank you for sharing your adventure.

  5. What a nice way to spend my birthday evening. Thank you Hazel for tonight's video. Well done crossing the Bay. Do you have plans made yet for projects after the start of the new year? Best wishes to you and the family for a very prosperous and adventurous year ahead.

  6. Just came across your channel and hats off to you, thoroughly enjoyed it! In answer to your VHF question, the international maritime authority language is English so if you need to communicate, they are duty bound to reply to you in English. So if in doubt just speak slow but firm and they will adjust to you. I only really encounter foreign conversations exactly where you are in French waters. Keep up the great work, you’ve earned a subscriber.

  7. In terms of the VHF, in our experience general broadcasts are done in local language and English. Emergency calls are almost always in English. International radio language for both ships and aeroplanes is English. 🎉

  8. Love those Freedom ketch rigged boats with the twin carbon fibre masts, unstayed as they're so strong. What made you put a pair of Junk sails on? Can you sail close to the wind? I know the original sails were a very good set up, quite fast. Good luck and fair winds on your travels.
