Caught the stream. I concur. As great as Wonder is, i think I prefer Super Mario Bros Wii U currently. I might even prefer Wii too. I have to go back and check. I really like Wonder's remix type flower mechanics… The doubling up of homage badges to past character powerups is nice… But Overall I think U has better level design, platforming and gameplay flow. I find U's new and updated Mario Bros power ups to be more consistent for parkour, the triple jump also felt really good in the originals. The new Yoshis and challenge levels added a lot and i liked being able to use them with parkour in mind. Wonder feels slower and easier but I do really enjoy how it handles completion.
I think Wonder allowing you to keep a coin after touching it and dying makes it a bit too easy but I understand why they did it (its reward enough for some to reach it)…. I miss the in level coin minigames from the New series, the random applause for pulling off hidden areas or tricks. Some of the hidden purple minicoin bits were overused in Wonder. I think the New series also handles multiplayer better. The challenge stages were so fun in NSMBU… Nabbit too. The badge challenge levels and mini levels in Wonder are cool. I guess Wonder overall is slower paced like some early Mario games. NSMB series did a better job of balancing new with old and giving you that feel of what 2d Mario was like the first time and then adding alot to it.
