1. Assests should never be in your own name. If someone sues you then any assets in your name can be taken. Wealthy people probably do not own their clothes or anything else in their name

11. It’s basically just a couple of data breaches away. Panama Papers, Lux Leaks, Paradise Papers, et al, were just the beginning. It’s just a matter of time.

12. I worked for a major oil company. They had vessels that were bareboat chartered. On paper, the owners in some cases were churches or other entities. The oil company was for the intent and purpose the owner/operator.

    The oil company also owned the insurance company that provided the P & I insurance.

Now Putin has kicked off World War 3 and everybody is broke…including the Banks (failure of Credit Suisse.) Can't get insurance. Bullets flying everywhere. Fuel prices are sky high. A lot of these "billionaires" don't actually have any money at the moment because the credit system isn't working. Tax authorities are on the war path. Bonding Agencies looking to downgrade. "Sovereigns" means payment in physical gold … so better have a gold mine backing all of that debt. In the USA we call it "abandonment issues" where the beneficial owner is basically whoever owns the parking space for these behemoths. Once the rumors start flying that Putin is dead well, who knows what direction the Armies and Navies will be moving then.

    And Air Forces Royal or otherwise as well.

    You'll know who owns YOUR Superyacht when it gets hit by an Air Strike that's for sure. Maybe people should try peace next time? In the meantime talk about burning through money…your ship is on fire!

16. They use those yachts as a business expense and a tax write off which helps the rich from paying their fair share of taxes.

17. But let your average shmuck try to pull that one, and he's off to the iron bar resort. All expenses paid vacation. Of course, after the assets are sold off to recover the court costs. The laws change as you can afford them.

Every movie is separately incorporated so that if it bombs the main movie studio can't be drug down with it. If someone dies on a yacht, only the company its registered to can be sued, the owner is protected from unlimited liability.

30. It limits their liability to the value of the yacht only. There was no criminal case merely a civil case in Ft. Lauderdale where one crew member claimed rape by another crew member and the jury awarded her the value of the yacht. Obviously the owner of the yacht had zero to with the rape, he was not anywhere near near the yacht at the time of the alleged assault.

31. It's really quite simple… They stole their money by either fraud or at the point of a gun.

32. I'm sure there are many reasons for hiding ownership but chief among them must be financial. If you can't prove ownership then it can't be seized in the event of financial difficulty. Banks, who authorise the loans on these assets, must hold the information because you have to state what you will need the loan for or maybe that's only for the poor. If the loan is unpaid then the bank has ownership rights, I would presume, until the load is repaid in full. If the owner is a company there must be a way to discover when the company was incorporated in relation to the loan being approved, there has to be a way to trace ownership.

33. I'm not being deprecating. This is an actual question. So, UN members can move around DC / LA / NYC with sub-machine guns and police escorts? AirForce I & II as well as State aircraft have anti-missle-defenses. So, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, how do their ambassadors not have similar weaponry as that within the "Five Eyes"? You think others do not have this? It it known as a diplomatic pouch and total / qualified immunity. You think billionaires do not have qualified immunity? Okay…
    Honest question…Totally get the gun cabinet thing…totally understand your armored / ballistic vehicle comments…I ASOLUTELY LOVE AMERICA AND THE UK. But, to think we're the only one with international defenses is just "silly"
