It will all work out for the best.
First Time watching your channel – sorry about your boat! I don't even own a boat so my comment could mean nothing. I watch Sailing Zatara (you tube channel) they own a big catamaran . They have been all over the world – they had an instance like yours but they were in the boat when the mourning ball let go. Of course they were able to rectify the situation and the boat did not suffer any damage. After this incident if they used any balls they dove down to see if the balls were secured before they anchored.
Heartbreaking, I hope things get better for you guys soon.
You can repair it. On parlay revival Collin took a hurricane damaged catamaran made it stronger and faster. That boat has far more damaged than this boat. It will take take time you’ll bring her back to life. It’s a boat brake out another thousand.
Wow brother
So sorry
Hey Alan, not your typical crowd here. I’m a 22 year old who absolutely loves your videos. This is devastating but I know you will come back with something even better. Everything happens for a reason. Sending love from Las Vegas!
List my friend
This is so heartbreaking. My husband and I have a 40’ Tiara and I’d be devastated if this happened to us. I’m so sorry for you. Praying she’s salvageable.
Contact Sailing Dauntless. They rebuilt a NEW Leppard Cat. ⛵️ Complacency is the destroyer of dreams. You will always look back and say, "I should have….. the would've, should've, could've, mind game. Also, many would say, "If it were me!" Look, Go and watch Sailing Dauntless ⛵️ if that family of four that rebuilt a Leppard 1.7 million dollar vessel, with both hulls ripped out. Then, anything is possible. ❤
Sorry about your boat should keep your patio chairs 🪑 better bost of to junk pile
I feel for you Alan, a horrible thing to happen to anyone. You’ve really inspired us to make our own journeys to BVI and hope that in time you will put this behind you and enjoy again this wonderful corner of the world.
Your video is heartbreaking. Your boat is beautiful. I really hope that she can be saved. Apart from the salt water ingress in the engine rooms it's where the P brackets have punched up into the Hull. Props and shafts and rudders can all be replaced. I really hope she is savable. So glad everyone is safe and well. You can check, double check and triple check but it was something far outside of your control that appears to have failed. It happens but doesn't make it any easier to deal with. Wishing you the very best in this horrible situation.
A broken mooring is a nightmare, especially if you're off the boat. I'm in the habit of diving the mooring to check the line and/or chains, but even then, you can't always tell. So I also set an anchor alarm with a very tight swing circle.
Man relax……. it's just a boat and in my experience she looks absolutely repairable!
Colin and his friends would fix it in 7 days to circle and navigate around world….
If you have good insurance don’t stress too much about 🙂
You are the reason we chartered last year with 3 other couples. You bring so much joy to so many people that you will never meet. Never, ever give up. This is nothing more than a bump in the road!
Please don't give up, I can see how deverstated you are with what happened. Please ignore the idiots out there. I always looked forward to your logs. I don't believe for one minute that it was done deliberately. Chin up Alan dig deep don't give in Please.
( captain) vessel is secure!. well done! Handling the the minutes of (pandemonium) all while keeping a cool head. Same; custom rig 39' Sloop! jumped on a city Mooring "Key West" hit a small Bridge took the mask down!…
Relax you still have your life a wife and a job, it probably happened for a reason , it's just a boat brother
Hey you know this stuff happens. We are all on a journey. Thanks for sharing so it won’t happen again and the next so and so can have a different debacle all his own.
Couldn’t you just dropped your anchor in mind your own business ?
My heart goes out to you Alan.
Man that sucks bigtime. Sorry to see that happen. I can totally understand that you feel emotional about it. You just feel love for a boat. We also have a boat. pretty small compared to yours 35 ft. But the situations are more or less the same. Always checking anchor. Always making sure you are secure. I hope all will end well.
OMG Alan, I am so, so sorry, this is so crushing 😪😪😥😥She is a dream boat and I would salvage her. She was perfect, she can still be perfect.
I wouldn’t claim to be a fiberglass expert by any means but I do have quite a bit of experience with fiberglass repair and fixing boats, with the damage being that significant I would definitely advise against any effort to repair this boats hull unless you leave it on land and turn it into a boat house
I’m sure it doesn’t feel like it but man it could have been so much worse! You have some first tier friends that’s for sure.
Wow, what a horrible experience. At least you're okay. You may have addressed this and I missed it, but I wonder if a drag alarm would have made a difference. Another YouTube channel called sailing Nandji had a mooring ball come loose on them and they ended up hard on the rocks. They said that they won't trust a mooring ball and won't use one again.
…………….. At 17:34 you sound like a real A-Hole.
Alan, I too grounded my first sailboat in August and it was a horrifying experience. Your experience and training helped you make good decisions. Lean in on that. You'll live to make more memories when you are ready.
Honest to goodness, seems maybe a different boat, a different company…maybe it's a nudge from above. Blessings whatever you decide.
Sometimes you just have to love ‘em and leave ‘em. Write it off to experience, and cherish the memories.
You never seemed to have a real chance with all of the problems. I don’t know if you got a lemon, or if that hull was cursed, but nothing was caused by your lack of trying. On the contrary, your patience and effort was overwhelming.
I can see you on an explorer type yacht pulling out of MDR headed for the Panama Canal and on to the BVI. Or, turn right and motor up to the Inside Passage. Granted, it’s not bar hopping in the Caribbean but dude, you make excellent videos.
Really sorry this happened.
Hey BVI boater. Wow! That’s every boater’s nightmare!
We were there also at the same time. Wind and waves were pretty high. We didn’t even go out on 1/26/24. People were coming in saying it was extremely rough!! I too worried about those mooring balls! We rented a 464pc. Brand new. Beautiful boat!! But larger than previous ones. The weight concerned me. We did have several issues also, but still really enjoyed the time their. We love it like you obviously do! Totally not your fault!!! That whole thing was literally a matter of a few minutes to save it. But glad your okay and safe! Boat can be replaced. I did notice that the more slack or bigger V when I moored was easier on the ball. Hopefully your insurance will handle it and you can return again soon. It was awesome seeing the rebuild since the hurricanes. See you out on the water February 2026. Saba rock!! Should be calmer then. 🥂
Allan, don't be sad my brother, it could be worse, IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE!
Put yourself in my & my wife's shoes for instance…
Unexpectedly, out of nowhere, my knee gave out, and I learned I need a total knee replacement, and can no longer walk, not at all, leaving us in completely without a way to support ourselves, something that resulted in our becoming homeless, and we're currently living out of our truck, and I was turned down for Medicaid, have no insurance, and basically no way out of this dreadful situation, trust me, it's not good!
As bad as losing your beautiful vessel was and is, at least you have your health, are viable, talented, educated, and can resolve this problem, unlike us, who are broke, homeless, and have no idea which way to turn, so it could be so much worse.
Either way… hang in there my friend, we're with you in spirit, we love your videos, and we know, no matter what, you'll bounce back, and be even better than before!
Much Love to you & yours, you guys are in our thoughts, and in our prayers, God Bless!
That boat can be fixed half a million my guess, Hope your're Insurance company don't give you a hard time,Don't be hard on yourself ,Your're health is more inportant ,God bless !!
Unknown mooring quality. Don't trust them. Verify wear every time. Unless the inspection report is updated regularly on the mooring, self inspection is required. Each shackle and fittings should be inspected. were the shackles siezed? I was in the dock/mooring business for 30 years. Someone should have dived on the mooring. Trust a bar owner? He probably didn't know what to look for, if he looked.
An arrogant Hollywood director*
Views views views views..this is why I despise YouTube.
I don't understand why people don't put out backup anchors when they're on moring balls? I know it can get complicated and get tangled up, but you'll know how long the morning ball is pretty quickly and we can set a very least. You can just throw an anchor with twice the length of the morning ball and connect it to the front with the boring ball. Then if it breaks at least something will drag on the ground
I think she is fixable. Just gotta find the right people. Good luck to you either way
Alan I'm sending prayers and blessings to you and your family. Alan you have been such an inspiration to a great number of folks, including me and my interests in the Aquila 44 as I am a neophyte to boating. It was an accident and no blame to be placed on you or the owner of the ball. Please keep posting your videos for us because they so genuinely informative. You did have to share your life but, I myself are so glad you have and so very grateful. As a retired Chicago homicide and SVU detective I have seen and been apart of some of the most horrific crimes.i saw you fist video and fell in love with the idea of living and cruising on aa Aquila so thank you from what's left of a broken soul. What ever direction you have to go God will be there blessing you and I will be there applauding you. I pray that she will be fine brother. God bless you.
Sending our thoughts and prayers to you, your wife and everyone who ever cruised with you. I can’t imagine the emotions you are feeling, truly heartbroken. Please please don’t let this stop you, you have an incredible spirit and passion. I look forward to hearing about the next “chapter” of your journey. 🙏🏽👊🏻👊🏻
Dang it’s a boat not your life man I’ve lost things in life but crying 😂over them hmm just find a grave yard and put a tumstone on it visit it everyday 😊
Alan – we shocked and saddened to hear about your boat!! Glad to hear everyone is safe and sound and that no one was on-board… considering how different the outcome had it happened at night or while you were sleeping. I am still in shock myself and it wasn't even my boat or experience – but my heart and wishes of encouragement go out to you.
Thanks to your amazing BVI videos – you inspired and gave us the courage to charter an Aquila 443 last March (2023) – and your 7-day Itinerary we followed exactly! Best family vacation we've had!! But like you, as the captain, found myself up at night checking the lines and mooring balls.
Thanks for sharing "the good, the bad, and the ugly"…fortunately mostly has been good, and the most good Alan, is the inspiration you have given to many (myself included), the courage to venture out and make an adventure, explore the BVI and charter an Aquila 🙂 So Thank you! Again – wish the current circumstance was different – but look forward to your updated 7-day BVI itinerary, and whatever Wandering Hillbilly has to share. Hang in there and God Bless!!!
Hey Alan .. I met you and your wife at Foxy's during this trip and we were neighbors at 2 different bays. So heartbreaking to see this happen along with the medical emergency that occurred. You will rise above from this and God Bless you, your family and friends. I will look forward to your victory and bouncing back better than ever before! You are a true Captain who has inspired many and thank you for sharing ❤
Your only mistake was thinking you could eliminate points of failure on a boat. Thats a Hollywood idea. The reality is be prepared for the failures Mother Ocean will inevitably reveal. For the lucky, its revealed after years and years on the water. For others, its the maiden voyage. You survived & its only money. Learn from it and adventure on!
whatever can go wrong will go wrong often at the worst time.😎👎🏻
I feel you Allen that’s a very nice boat and I’m sure you knew what you were doing I’ve had 7 boats in my life and I put most of them together myself so I understand how hard you work to enjoy life and family you will be ok 👍 ❤
