1. Your Dad is a very quiet man, Great to you and him working so close together. I am sure he will miss you when you set sail Mp. Can you give your dad a speaking part before you sail.. lol. Wishing you guys all the very best as you quickly approach launch day. It has been quite a journey so far

  2. With the shipwrights that you have working on Yaba, and If you didn't need to stop and explain everything, I'm sure that you would have been in the water two years ago. But I will be forever grateful that you allowed me to join with your dream.

  3. I'm certain it's been said but it's a pleasure to watch MP and her Father work together on the electrics. You two must feel the connection of this experance as well. Each "Boat building channel" is unique but yours has a special quality.

  4. You might want to check your battery cables and make sure that they have room better the positive and negative cables so they don't rub on each other and cause a short and a possibility of a fire. Better to be safe than sorry.

  5. In the video, at 14:22 you are working in what I think is the forepeak / locker. I think i see some deck caulking hanging from the deck planks, meaning it was pushed all the way through the seam. If not corrected this is a future source of serious problems. Otherwise, great progress in spite of the rain and heat.

  6. Huh, your electrical is like "ClarkTech" to you. it works because you followed directions but it still seems like magic…. 😉 good job on all of it, keep it up.

  7. I still like the idea of adding a stainless rub rail running down the keelson at the bow. It protects with an anchor line or chain cutting into the keel maybe 4-6 meters 6-8cm wide. We used to do this on 30-40 wooden boats.

  8. Hi MP & Ben, Just wanted you to know that the name of that tool MP was using is called a "Torque Wrench". But as usual love the content and that you are so close to putting Yaba on the water.

  9. Hi MP and Ben you are progressing along nicely great to see as said before you are so lucky to have MP's dad there with all his expertise showing his daughter his trade it would be great to hear from her dad his opinion of the boat and to even take about what he has done look forward to the next instalment.

  10. I do have a big question?
What type of batteries do you have and can I get some info on them. I am a ham radio operator and am in need of some good, high-powered batteries for my radio system!!!
I like the work that you have been doing on Yaba, looking great there even better after all the rotted wood was taken out and replaced. It will be great when the boat goes back in the water for sea trials.

  11. Just wondering – did you ever consider a 48V DC system so you could have even thinner wires? Is it much harder to get 48V DC equipment?

  12. Congratulations on the switch on!

I work in IT, and there is a similar moment every time you first power up a computer you have assembled. It's called "The burn test", where, if you have done something wrong "magic smoke" can sometimes be seen from the circuit boards and a burning smell becomes very evident.

Not a happy moment, but even having gone through countless burn tests, you can't escape that moment of anxiety you just went through, even if everything has been triple checked.

So we'll done! Bravery is always needed at such moments, and you came through!

Got to say, though, while I deal in small parts of an ampere, you were dealing with massive (if relatively low voltage) power sources. I'm relieved that there wasn't a slip with a tool that might have shorted something out, that might have resulted in not only the release of much magic smoke, but a large bang and sparks everywhere.

  13. Hi guys. I am concerned that the solid bus bars between the batteries will not allow any flex when the boat inevitably settles and moves. It could cause damage to the battery posts that would be impossible to see or fix ;( A section of cable with enough length to flex a little bit would be much safer. Are you having a water maker on board? Haven’t heard anything about a through hole for it yet? Cheers Ray (UK)

  14. So when are the check valves going to be fitted to all those new Holes that you have drilled in the Hull ????????? and will be interesting to see if you can get Insurance on the Ship and if its up to Maritime standard ?????.

  15. Ben & MP, you have shown us the super protection of steel around the rear keel and propellor area, but maybe you could have something similar to protect the front bow/keel joining area from damage when approaching shallow areas or beaching? It would be quite simple for the excellent fabrication guys you used? Cheers Ray ( UK)

  16. Why can't you paint the sacrificial keel when it is raining? It's not raining under the boat.
Hey Ben, well done! Finally we've seen the bike. Suzuki DR 200. Great. I have a Suzuki 200 as well. Very different though. 1969 Suzuki T200 Invader. 2 cylinders, 2 stroke engine.
Well done MP and Dad with the 24v system.
