Very informative thanks. For a catamaran, beside Main and Genoa, adding a Code Zero (or a Flying Genoa variant), which would be your best choice for a 4th sail? Gennaker, Asym Spinnaker, Sym Spinnaker, other?

This is a great series – haven't done much sailing at all, but this is so educational regarding technical issues, and also what may happen at sea regarding politics, lol (and how best to handle that). Also beautiful photography – abs riveting, and Nick always remains so calm, tactful and with a great sense of humour . All you need to do now is chuck the captain overboard and stage a mutiny (just kidding).
Did your delivery captain really say he never uses weather models, or was he joking?

Wonderful images of the spinnaker sail. I grew up sailing 420s, and everyone's favorite is spinnaker (symmetrical) on a beam reach with a spinnaker boom, and full trapeze send, surfing.
I am disappointed for you that they did not make you captain. The french way is very much felt in the boat atmosphere,. Also, it probably does not help that they are all french speaking and you are not. Kudos for your positive attitude !

The captain should have listened to you and took the other route for sure. Especially since losing the spinnaker

I understand you are not very happy. I agree with you. You are a professional about weather forecast, meteorology and The captain forget to hear you. That’s never pleasant and I see that in this video.
But I hope you got some pleasure to sail on this boat. That’s always very difficult to sail when you have a date. We don’t like that and to have never more. When le rope broke and the spin went at sea, that’s not normal on a new sailing boat. On board, we have a special look for that. Really I don’t understand, with professional on board. Naked carbon fiber surfaces and hulls are loud.. other alternative composites are more acoustically deadening.

From the beginning of this crossing, I seemed to feel that Nick and the Captain would be butting heads and not agreeing on passage or plans. I think Nick was being very diplomatic and fell in line of his status on the voyage. I personally feel the captain ,John Mark was a Maverick, old school salty Captain that believed his way was the only way and his rank meant it was his way. Correct me if Im wrong but I thought Nick on many occasions implied, through many of the videos on this delivery that him and John Mark disagreed. Thanks but I’ll take Nicks safer approach toward sailing. Im just glad Megan wasn’t there to bare witness to such an irresponsible old salt. But Im sure she would have heard all about t. I watched him and Stephan from sailing Awen on the first leg of their videos on the way to the Miami Boat Show and didn’t like his style. I think Nick would never admit it as he’s too classy and understands the rank and fell in line as a good crew member would, just at what point is it safety and at what point would it be almost Mutiny? Throwing the Asym sail overboard is irresponsible of the captain in creating dangerous situations for other boats travel the ocean and a terrible environmental impact for marine lives: whales, turtles, etc.
1. A schedule on a sailboat? 2. Cut the corner? 3. Crossing the Atlantic in Feb? 4. As you noted, a spinnaker at night? When you’re not racing with a big crew? Well, it all makes for ‘interesting’ entertainment.
ok, so how much is a spinnaker?
There is nothing as nice as a nice spinny run. There can always be disagreements with the person in charge, Capitan or Navigator. However, the CO is the CO. Responsibility and consequences are on them. It is also impressive to see the size of the mast and sheet close up. Gives you an idea how large the boat is.
I would not want this Captain.
