1. Let's be clear: If people are removing the tips, no matter what excuse they use, it is because they are cheap. That said, cruise lines can and should completely avoid this issue by folding the daily gratuities into the overall cost of the cruise. Virgin Voyages does this and not only does it solve the issue of people removing the tips, but it ALSO circumvents the "nickle-and-dime" crew who complain every time cruise lines announce those rates going up. If the cost is folded into the overall price of the. cruise, the lines don't even NEED to announce changes to them. I'd also say that when recent legislation was passed regarding pricing transparency where fees such as port taxes were concerned, these "daily gratuity charges" should have been folded into that same policy.

  2. We always tip on a cruise or at an all inclusive resort but what we’ve found is that the workers seem to expect a tip and I would feel guilty if I didn’t. I certainly don’t want to over tip either. YC is amazing!!!

  3. I would never remove the gratuities. if I i have bad service. just don't tip extra . only one time did a cabin stewerd not get extra. the staff is always awesome.

  4. This tipping edition is helpful, thanks. But I think you're addressing American cruise passengers, not other nationalities. Tipping in many other countries is not a custom, and in some places its considered an insult.

  5. Thirty cruises under our belts. We've always left special tipping till the end, but every morning we felt obliged to hand the breakfast room service delivery person a couple bucks. Required? Suggested? Not sure if the daily tip fees get to those guys. We are booked on three Yacht Club cruises in 2025.

  6. My husband and I always remove tips we tip accordingly. The people behind the scene. The ship should be paying a little bit more for them not us paying them.

  7. Also I forgot. We took one of the Haven crew member to a specialty dinner and then brought back food for some of the other members. We were on the same ship with that member 3 or 4 times.

  8. For european cruises (or if you book it from europe, in my case germany), tips are in general included in the cruise price, as stated by MSC, telling me, that it is included in the so called "Hotelfee". Nevertheless…as MSC does not have an ATM onboard the Preziosa, I will have a bundle of dollar notes in my wallet…just in case, because good service can and must (!) be rewarded contributed individually to me as a guest. I think, this is fair.

  9. I have been on many cruises (in suites, Haven, Retreat, and Yacht Club). I don't mind paying the gratuities. I do however believe that cruise lines should build this into the price of the cruise on the front end and make this a required part of the fare so that passengers CAN NOT remove them at the end of their cruise. I see these gratuities as part of my cost of cruising but I would rather pay them before the cruise (and I usually do prepay these gratuities when offered)!

  10. I definitely never remove tips! Those mostly go to people we never even see. Like you, I tip extra at the end. I want to see how I'm treated with no expectations. I also take photos of staff that go above and beyond, so I can include their names in the post cruise survey. That often means more to them than extra cash, because they get additional benefits from the cruise line. I pretty much always tip my room steward, even on cruises where tips are included in the fare, because they are typically the lowest paid and hardest working staff on the ship.

  11. I befriended a person happen to be around us quite often so we were a little friendly and I found out they do not get that money that our gratuities are supposed to go to them. They have a salary and that’s all that they get… so I tip individually cash I know they got it

  12. We are going with MSC Seascape Yatch Club in October. We have already included the gratuity when we paid for the cruise. Should we expect to still tip our butler out at the end of the cruise?

  13. Think all cruise lines should include tips in their prices so there will be no issues. Not all cruise lines require you to tip

  14. Question, please explain the gratuities that are added to our cruise at the end of the cruise… is it for all of those ship parts? I.E. We are yacht club and will be eating in the club area not the MDR… how do I know the funds are going to the folks in the Yacht Club area??? Is it better to take off the Gratuities and personally hand the cash out??? Please Advise 🙂 Thank you.
