  1. My wife has the same disability I would highly recommend a set of grab rails on the transom and a set of grab rails at least that are permanently fixed to the gangway going off the boat from the side entrance simply a suggestion what I say to your guests fight with all your might that sea will set you free

  2. Tell them to look at the specialised boats built by Atlantic marine the yard that builds the Daz cats and the Deepblue rapier 550.they also built a wheelchair sailing cat called the impossible voyage. On Nautistyles.. channel. Pinch their best ideas.
Oceanmarine also built a wheel chair landing craft dingy very fast stable and could handle a load of rough stuff as it had a high freeboard. Electric so no effort starting. Charged from the mother ships solar and generators.
The trimaran may still be a good start as might a windelo or a Dix 55 … the latter being epoxy ply could be modified more easily. They both have forward cockpits and internal helms.

  3. I was run down in 1992 and have brain trauma from that! I don't walk smoothly and being at sea, I would not be so readily on display. I have always (64 years!) been private so solitude would be great for me. As a teenager I and my 2 brothers bought a dinghy so I know how sails work! I would love to buy a sea going yacht, as much as my brother thinks that I am insane. Maybe he is right but I have a different idea of life. You are just as likely to be run down in the street as not so my thought is "If not, then why not. What do I have more to lose! My sanity?"

  4. To get on and off the dinghy, put a lifting platform in stead of davits. The platform has cradles for the dinghy and goes to below the water surface. This solution also gives you a way to get into and out of the water easily. You really want that!

There are crazy expensive heavy versions of this, with hydraulics and all, which you don’t want. Have some arms under the bridge deck with hinges well forwards. Ropes and pulleys to an electric winch. Parallel stays keeps the platform flat.

“Sailing Uma” were on a cruising cat in the Caribbean recently that had something like that. The boat building people can make something nice out of this. Perfect aluminium project.

  5. Peter…i tried putting up 6 times links to help these folks and they keep being removed.

They need a side gate that folds down to form a ramp …or can allow a wide passerel type side or aft bridge to be run out.

See the disabled explorer cats Daz cat have built the sort of dingy and the loading system they need.

  6. I'm a big fan of the disabled sailing the world. I simply don't believe being disabled is an excuse to not do it. People modify cars all the time to drive. It is my belief that a yacht can be modified to suit it's owners requirements also.

  7. So you ARE capable of getting through a video without saying "pee-pole" every minute. I have to click thumbs up for that. Wish you would do more sincere videos like this and give the always trying to be funny Plukky character some time off. You are SO much more interesting to watch when you're "out of character".

  8. Beth has a mobility problem, not insurmountable. Take on a crew member to assist both of you. There are young people, right up to older folk who would love to travel with you, people who do not have access to a nice boat like a Neil. I be willing to go with you, there is no reason to commit yourself to being less than you could be!!

  9. My ship's neighbor also has limited mobility. He uses an extended boom on which a mobile crane is mounted on the underside to get onto the catamaran or to use the dinghy. Pictures are easy to find, it is a red IceCat 67.

  10. Amazing people. Beth seems a very strong woman. And she is funny too, perfect wife Adam! Hope you have many years together and visit many country's and have lots of fun doing it.😁
