Why are they using fresh water for the canal when it's sitting between 2 oceans that are full of water… logically doesn't make sense why they don't pump ocean water in & let it run out.. 🤷♂️

Panama needs to convert the canal system over to saltwater, and save the fresh water for the community.
Don't they use three times more water than they did prior to 2016? They increased the size of the locks to accept much larger ships. How is this not a factor and why isn't it talked about? Have they not had dry years in the past?
There used to be a forest under the water of the Panama Canal the size of Quebec but a Canadian lumber company clear-cut it a decade ago. That would make the water drop.

Perhaps someone here can explain why the Panama canal doesn't just pump ocean water throughout the locks.
So it's not the driest year ever, the new locks are much bigger and they only capture 60% fo the water for reuse. You are still using the old locks too, the reservoir is no bigger. But 'Climate Change' is the problem. Since it's not the driest year ever, climate change is not the problem, the climate obviously is no different to 100 years ago. But if you still want to blame the climate and believe it has changed so much, why didn't you plan for it? Bad planning and greed is the problem. How's it working out?
