Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Guessing Balmar ARS-5 failure? If so, yes, they aren’t cheap and sometimes hard to find.
I fried one of mine when I experienced a near lightning strike which took out some less obvious electronic components while completely missing those which were in my mind the more susceptible ones. In the last 30 years I’ve been hit three times now and it’s a phenomenon that is forever perplexing.
The tell I learned about the controller being the issue from those in the know is that the tach starts going out as it gets it’s reading from the controller.
Curious if you noticed this also?
Great vids, love your content!
Good one lads. Weather in NZ is a bit changeable. I am originally from Wellington and have lived in Tauranga and there will be plenty of everything on your way round NZ. Next port south of Tauranga is Gisborne and worth a look and then Napier and then a big leg down to Wellington but you probably know all this by now. 😅. 🐟
A rodent!? Well I never… must be all that cheese you've been eating! 😂
Summer down here is about the equivalent to winter in Cardiff. We haven't had the pleasure of cold weather in Queensland, but 35°C and 75% humidity is challenging. Top video guys. I'm finding these to be the best of the bunch now.
Sailing Christmas trees Have loud horns!!!
You can star in the movie The Fly!!!
My Balmer reg did the same thing !
Paradise, boys! Absolutely amazing sights.
Glad you're keeping safe and well.
🎉🎉
Keep on plugging along lads … everything in your stride 👍
NZ weather is largely determined by a series of low pressures circulating around the Southern Ocean. So you get 3 or 5 nice days, then 1 or 2 bad days as the front passes through (strong N wind, then rain, then strong SW wind). Repeat. So the best weather window you're likely to get is a few days, and the passage inevitably ends up a dash between ports. You guys are boldly going where few dare to tread. Respect!
The wire that burnt out was probably the wrong gauge.
( As in to large),
So I hope it's all been replaced and all circuits have been fused.
Keep up the good work boys
Lol, it also can be hard sailing in NZ .
Go northwest and keep going .
See you 2 in Australia a sailing paradise
I don’t typically like rodents. But I find Adam very likable. So I don’t think you are an actual rodent. 😂
Hats!
Sad to see you boys leaving our little town. Hope you have a good sail down south.
Doing East Cape, you really do have to pick your weather carefully… Love Tauranga. I bought my first keeler there…
Dear Adam only one major mistake this episode, when you BAAHHED at the sheep you didn't hide your Welsh Accent and nothing scares sheep more.
But be honest as long as the boat is secure the rain lashing the windows outside gives you a warm comfy feeling inside.
Can get big swells along that coastline around Gisbourne , have fun lads take care
Lithium Ion is awesome when it works. High power density (power storage vs size/weight), excellent discharge performance, and smaller packaging than lead acid. However, when it fails, it’s a disaster. Li Ion batteries will burn or blow when shorted or punctured (quite dangerous), and charging systems and parameters are poorly understood. I’m still convinced that a set of four group 29 AGM batteries are still the best bet for a sailboat, since weight is not a concern in the ballast of the boat, and these systems are safe and easily understood. Call me a troglodyte if you wish, but just because it’s new doesn’t make it better…
Good to see you fixed the alternator problem, there is a site called refit and sail he is a professional boat builder who has done a lot of the same improvements. It might be a help to refer to in the futur. Good luck lads keep sailing.
How can you expect anything to stay fixed wearing a t shirt that says eat – sleep – repair? Burn Lukes t shirt and all your electric problems are solved 😂😂.
Loved your hike to the top of 'The Mount', and the views you shared.
The land of the big cloud.Just like England. You must be happy.
Did you figure out that you can't direct wire the alternator to a lithium battery? LI batteries have a switch on them that cuts off the flow. That's what happened w the first alternator and regulator. The amps had nowhere to go.
Closer to the sun..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣‼️ You guys crack me up🤣🤣🤣
What a lovely place to be stuck in even though you wanted to get going. What a storm too . Good old Atlas keeping you warm and dry . X
Very funny banter Adam. Top episode chaps
I warned you …that place is twinned with ROYSTON VASEY ….with no cheese either !!!!
Maui Jim make a range of sunglasses for smaller faces. Bloody expensive but great quality.
Ray Ban also do differently sizes on their most popular designs.
