The Caribbean is a dangerous place full of violent characters . I would never sail around there without a couple of decent firearms.
The tourism department of Grenada will make sure that this is forgotten as soon as possible.
Even when armed, a couple or even a family on a boat is vulnerable at night. Without a crew, no one can man a watch 24 hours a day. Go to sleep and boarders will be on you before you can react.

Terrible crime and loss of kind people enjoying their later years fulfilling a dream. How did these criminals escape, they were said to be extremely dangerous? How do we protect ourselves or others?

So this is why I don't go anywhere unarmed. You never know when the criminals are going to come, and if you can't defend yourself, then you are the victim.

The couple still had one more week of stay there. several criminal acts of BODILY harm to the couple. Again you have a Rapist, a homeless, and a farmhand. There weapon of choice is a machete. What harm could they possibly do over a 10 hour 80 mile journey? May I suggest you watch the 1989 movie Dead Calm. You will find most of the answers in it. That area is infested with Rapists of every kind including the police officers. Keep in mind, that Rapist was a Sailor. The two crew members saw and experienced the most gruesome torture to death to chum. I doubt their bodies will ever be found. They made confessions but the PM/chief of police refuse to expose.
I’m sure by now the Grenada government has washed down he “Similicity” with bleach to keep any outside investigators from coming in and performing DNA testing on blood, objects, linen, bodily fluids including semen which would proof what everyone else has figured out.

If you have the time, it would be a good idea to save the GPS locations of hospitals, then police stations, and for giggles now, the locations of all jails and prisons. Is there an interactive map program that allows you to save infinite locations and be able to color the different points by type?

They’re on an expensive sail boat and they don’t have dogs 🐶 or electronic motion sensing security to give them advance notice of potential pirates, I just don’t get it.

I would first check for anchors. In the case of the yacht The Well Deserved Tom and Jackie Hawks put the boat up for sale. Some criminals posing as prospective buyers requested a trip out on the boat. Once at sea, sadly the couple were tied to anchors and pushed overboard.

I never declare any weapons aboard and I assure you that no customs agents will ever locate them. I will risk it to know that my vessel is safe. I am sure they look at me and assume I have them, but good luck finding them. 😘
The International Yatching Comunitt needs to demand the right to bear arms without harassment by any Coustoms .
The other almost more tragic aspect is that the three convicted rapists who confessed to this crime, were placed in the local police station in a cell that was known to not lock. Why has no one investigated this? Why were these three in the local police jail at all? They were inmates at the Grenada country jail less than 5 miles away. This would never had happened if these criminals were not left unlocked in a public police jail in the largest city in Grenada.
Dude they were in the Turks and are safe.

I PRAY they didn't die of exposure.. As a technical wreck (scuba) diver who sometimes needed hour+ to clear deco to get back to the surface, I paid a fair amount to have a delrin enclosure made that was tested to 500' fsw that I could put a PLB inside in case I got blown off the down / upline to the wreck… I actually knew a woman that disappeared off of Florida on a recreation dive, and another who was spearfishing… No body found.. They likely bobbed on the surface until they expired… If there was that amount of blood, hopefully they were not conscious.. Prayers to all of their families and friends.

i was there and felt not welcomed. rude people allover. i may by unlucky one but after sailing there in 2008 i never went back. no regrets. condolences to family and friends.
The humane Treatment of inhumane convicts is unjust ,its another weak man made fallacy that should be changed.Board and housing for persons with no regard for the sancity of life is atrocious ,it violates whats right.

Something I've never understood is why someone who is white upper-class set off in a $1million boat and goes to somewhere where there is almost no law and order where people live on $1 a day and expect not to run into trouble, if your rich go where he rich live, just because these places have nice scenery and clear waters doesn't mean they are nice places, it's the inhabitants who make places nice,
Make a small pressure tank with gasoline which you can pump on a good pressure with a hose and a release gun on the end. It works as a flame thrower. Easy to build from truck parts.

Can’t one use a flare gun for defense… I’d have several on board. I actually have a metal flare gun from Germany that can take shotgun shells. Also what about spear guns. I personally wouldn’t take a fire arm because in most countries it’s illegal and means jail time but they will take your boat too.
