1. Since the cutting of SO2 from ship tack emissions Caribbean has had a drought. Cutting SO2 that causes condensation has taken it's toll. Also cutting SO2 means warmer waters as more solar radiation heats the oceans making ocean boiling event. After 1980s, reductions in particulate emissions have also caused a "partial" reversal of the dimming trend, which has sometimes been described as a global brightening aka global warming.

  2. Now that ya'll have done the crossing of the Panama canal, what is next? Do you sail ⛵️ to the Hawaiian Islands 🏝 and down to the French Polynesian Islands 🏝 ? The Islands 🏝 of the Pacific are some of the most Breathe taking!
I just want to say, Thank You for taking us along though the canal.
I can't wait to see where ya'll are going next.
    So until next time ⏲️,
Aloha from the Big Island 🏝 of Hawaii! Cheers 🍻

Ooo! And hope to see your sails ⛵️ on the Horizon someday, from our lanai.

  3. Now that you are in the Pacific all you have to do to get home is continue to sail west, might take some time to get there, (LOL). Looking forward to your Pacific journeys, may all your dreams be fulfilled.

  4. What a treat! I had been looking forward to your crossing the canal, but did not realize it would be so soon. Great Job! This made my day! Will comment more after I can process this, I wanted to be one of the first to comment!

  5. So proud of Katy, am looking forward to seeing her growth after you have circumnavigated!

    You sir are boss!

As you were passing thru the canal there were large “stepped” structures on the bank. Are these the remnants of the construction of the canal, or are they old archeological sites?

  6. Godt laget episode. Fint fortalt om kanalen og opplevelsen! Talentfullt laget!

  7. I paddled through the canal in a dugout cayuca. Took 3 days to paddle from Cristobal to Balboa. Loads of fun. Sure was a different view sitting in a cayuca in the locks. Old Canal Zone was a great place to grow up. Sure has changed.

  8. This was a very well crafted episode. Love the content, the videos, and the editing. Congratulations on the crossing. Cheers to a new chapter in your adventures.!

  9. More like $3.5K, especially hiring line handlers, tips, F&B, etc. Then there's the OCD part.
Why not experience the Cape? Safest during Dec>March, max 14 days, /3.5K = $250p/d

  10. Absolutely the best video of the human experience crossing over to the Pacific Ocean! As an introvert, I somehow even felt relieved when everyone left the boat and Katy cleaned. Can’t wait to see how your sailing story unfolds on the Pacific.💙

  11. the locomotives just keep the ships centered. All movement of the ship through the canal is by that ship's propulsion. Those little locomotives would not have the power to pull that ship. Been through the canal twice. Once on a US Navy vessel and once on a sail boat. We were unfortunately behind a big container ship in the locks on the sailboat transit. When it came time to move to the next lock the prop wash from the ship was brutal. We were rafted with two other sailboats.

  12. Initially found it awkward to watch Katie disinfect everything. In what seemed like seconds after people left the boat. The second she referred to her OCD it all made sense. Wishing you well in prep to travel the Pacific. Keep smiling

  13. What an exceptional Documentary on the Panama Canal. As a US Merchant Marine my first transit was in 1974 on the American Astronaut a US Lines containership, 628ft long, 84 ft wide and 32ft deep. Being the monsoon season our daylight transit was hampered by a continuous deluge of water. It was an experience and one I'll never forget.
We are so Happy for you both, thanking Kattie so much for her continual support of mental health, as our youngest boy, now 40 year old has OCD as well. She's a real trooper, hoping her life aboard does not promulgate her condition. Again, thank you so much for this marvelous episode.

  14. Stellar episode you two. I’ve watched a half dozen channels canal transits and yours was a cut above. The time lapse from the bow was brilliant and enough history to be engaging without overdoing it. And being outnumbered by strangers in a small space for the duration. Hats off to you both. Enjoy the Pacific, it’s pretty amazing 😉. Looking forward to see your adventures

  15. Thank you so much for the history of building the Panama Canal. I did not know much of this, just the fact that a lot of people died as the Canal was being built.

  16. Haha. It is completely normal to be uncomfortable with people on your boat. Your boat is your nest, your crusty bottle, we gypos call it. People are a mixed bag, mostly okay but best at a distance. That is why you have made a sailboat your life. I was actually itching watching those people on your boat! But now, oooh, the wide pacific! Head straight for Fatu Hiva and Hiva Oah. Oh my god you might never leave, pure paradise, but rolley, I hope you have flopperstoppers.

  17. Bye the way, get out of the habit of towing your dingy- you are going to really regret that. I repeat, you are going to regret that, don't do it, only amateurs do that. You take your fenders in right? Why not just leave them out and look like a homeless encampment? Same for the dingy, plus, you are going to lose it if you tow it. Just a matter of time for losing the dingy, but "you" already look like gypos. (gypos- slang for gypsys. I am a gypo so I can say that, same as Africans with the N word. You can't say it unless you give me whiskey. Thems the rules). Go to Fatu Hiva.

  18. I’ve seen several boat channels go through the canal. One thing I’ve never seen is someone going around South America instead.

  19. I have watched several Panama canal crossings and never given the information you covered. Ty so much for the education and honoring all those people who lost their lives to make industry progress. Your footage is amazing. It truly is a marvel. Ty for sharing

  20. I orginally wanted to sail the pacific, but now worry it will be to far from kids and grandkids and lonely. The carribbean feel closer to Seattle. Your experience is encouraging..
