1. On the diesel snot so people don’t waste filters. Set up a pump into a 5 gal bucket. Then 2/3 the way up the bucket make a 1” thru port and hose back to the tank. When you pump to the bucket the snot will settle to the bottom while mostly clean fuel will flow back to the tank. Let it cycle for a while to get the big chunkies. After that you can use your filters to finish polishing the fuel.

  2. I share your hate for Diesel as well! I just learned, that glass will capture the microbial growth to the walls of the container, while a rigid plastic will not, allowing the microbial growth to accumulate at the bottom of the container, which in turn allows for better scavenging. Also, the microbes live in the water, of the fuel mixture and feed off of the fuel itself. Fascinating to see a physical demonstration.

  3. Caution: I think I recall seeing your To Do list awhile back and I saw that you purchase parts from "Parts4Engines" I do as well. I purchased Raycor filters clones from them – about half way across the stream at Cape Hatteras I was not getting fuel through either filter. Quickly removed ea filter and put the old Volvo filters back in. Contacted Parts4Engines several weeks later and they advised that they had a bad batch of filters and I needed to do a "mod" to get the fuel to flow through. Did the mod and they work fine but I am suspect of their non OEM parts now.

  4. Might be worth looking into Festool sanders for their dust collection abilities. I sanded the ceiling in my living room and didn’t cover anything and there was zero dust. Not only does it collect all the dust, but the vacuum sucks the sander to the work which saves your arms somewhat as well.

  5. Love seeing your sailing adventures but finding it really interesting to see how much work goes into keeping your floating home in shape. After spending 11 years doing our cottage up we know that motivation is key with all these things, you’re doing a fab job!

  6. As chunky as that fuel was, it might have been better to just pump it out into a kitchen strainer and let it run back in the tank. After the big chunks were removed the Racor would then remove the finer particulate. I discovered that I had diesel bug in my tank just before a three week trip last summer but it was nowhere near as bad as you had it. I ended up doing six complete turns of the fuel that was in the tank over a period of several days with shock doses of BioBor JF between pumping days.

  7. Brilliant solution to fuel system woes Warren with the modular filter pump setup. Cool thing is multi use being portable instead of fixed. Took sum tweaking, Brian GOAT, but believe you will be copied by others, hopefully before they need it. There is Super Ryan and now Tom, both legends deserving recognition.

  8. I’m not sure why I found it entertaining to watch you grind and paint and fix a fuel tank, but I did! These are huge repairs/upgrades and I hope those are the last for a while. Looking forward to seeing your adventures on the water in the coming months. Enjoy the ride!

  9. Our coppercoat should be going on this week at the FP factory weather permitting, all you guys doing so much hard work later to get the ablative paint off made it a no brainer for us to start with coppercoat.

  10. Ok, One: The algae dose Not grow in the Diesel. It grows in the water 💧. Now the fuel will expand and Contract though out the day and night do to the temperature from day and night. Witch Causes Condensation, and we all know that is water 💧 is Heavier than fuel so it goes to the bottom of your tank. And that is where the algae or "bug" grows. And as your fuel level goes down and the Motion of the ocean Causes the fuel to slaosh back-and-forth,It breaks up the algae and mixes it in the fuel witch your filters get Clogged up. No matter what you do it is very hard to stop. But you can do your own " fuel ⛽️ polishing System" Buy putting two Rancor filters side by side and a ball Valve to swich it over when you notice a change in the Performance of your engine. All you do is turn the valve to the other filter and keep going. And you can change the other filter at the same time you are under way. And if you can , on the bottom of your fuel tank. If can put a Valve as low on the tank as you can. From time to time you can open the valve and let the water 💧 out. That should help.
Ok Thank You so much for this weeks video. Great job.
    Ok until next time,
Aloha from your friends on the Big Island of Hawaii!
    Aloha and cheers 🍻

  11. You need to investigate the FASS fuel system for continuous polishing of diesel and removal of air in the fuel. I put the system on my diesel RV last year and am so happy I did. Supplies more fuel than engine needs so polishing occurs always while engines run. Large cascading filters are easily changed if necessary.

  12. Love the boat work content guys! Hey Warren, loved the mobile fuel polishing idea! Maybe you could set up a 'pre-tank' that the polishing system is permanently plumbed into (even a rigged up 20 litre jerry might work). Maybe even a small Diesel Bladder (like 100-200 litre). Could perhaps use the bladder as an Aux tank on passages and then roll up and store when not required.
