This is not sailing!.
Flying hulls jumped the shark a long time ago. Put the boats in the water and leave them there.
There is plenty of displacement and planing racing in the sailing world still. I say let them fly!!!
Tiny Switzerland with the largest lake in Europe is once again showing its meticulous watch like design of a 21st century sailing boat. Facing top quality contenders, I wish them the very best. They deserve to win…like all the others. Hmm, I'm still a bit worried about that tipping hull. Hope it just needs some practice to keep its nose dry.
This was very interesting. I can't wait for your analysis of ETNZ.
quite frankly, yachting world, I don't care unless you strap Toby to this thing and let him give us his review
Great contribution. Thanks!
Do a lot more of these videos please!
Yawn.. the Foiling Boats always drags out the "it's not sailing" traditionalist dinosaurs…
Guess what, there are hundreds of traditional displacement sailing events annually around the world annually, that no one watches because to most it is dull as dishwater (except me, I'm a passionate displacement racer).
The Americas Cup has never been about the sailing, it has always been a Design Competition about the best &. fastest tech of the day.
I would love to see them crack the 55 knot /100kmph mark , not quite the 225 kmh of the fastest land yacht but way more drag on water to contend with and cavitation to worry about. At least they are running sails making the design race more relevant to other forms of more accessible sailing.
Great video, be really interesting to see your thoughts on the other boats
I'd like to hear your thoughts on American Magic.
Did Red Bull have a wind tunnel big enough for that design? … I'll bet they've wind tunnel tested at least a scale model.
Looking /comparing Alinghis and NZ underwater shape, Alinghi has a small range of advantages in mid range wind. Alinghi to much uplift in high wind spectrum and to less in low wind spectrum. In strong wind high speed even dangerous due to high very compression by high waves, with jumping effects – compresse, air can‘t flow away. Expect several damages and to much problems for RudderMen.
