  1. Biffy Clyro are amazing! Great songwriters. Amazing live! Heavy, energetic, pop, catchy, they do it all.
    Also, they're Scottish. 😄

  2. Yikes. Things have changed. I would not recommend that method for dealing with a traffic stop with guns in the car…unless you'd enjoy having everything confiscated and a ride downtown.

  3. Having encountered only one Dumble ever, a 1×12 combo,I have to say I agree that it didn't immediately impress me as having a remarkably different tone or feel as compared to many a Fender of similar wattage. Kind of like a Pro Reverb with a blanket over it. Certainly could pass on paying the $11k premium being asked by the seller.

  4. I have never met a musician who cares what instrument someone else plays, or cares what anyone else thinks of what instrument they play. As if there is some “status” involved in what gear you own. An instrument is a tool that you use to create music, which is the thing that matters. I can therefore only conclude that people on the internet who think of guitars or other instruments or gear that way are not musicians, and don’t even care about music. I cannot relate to “vanity” having anything to do with guitars. Sorry. That is a bizarre concept to me, and it is antithetical to the spirit of music. Personal aesthetic taste, yes, but that is not vanity. Art is about personal aesthetic taste. Vanity is “I want to look good to others” – and that has nothing to do with music.

The only thing anyone who is a musician (or music fan for that matter) cares about is how you play, and what you create, and how it makes them feel. Expensive gear is typically better. But nothing you buy is going to make you a better musician. For that you need to practice. And I guess that’s what these people getting all heated about gear don’t want to do. Owning ten guitars does not make you a better guitar player than owning one.

“Cheap gear is just as good as expensive gear, and I’m mad that expensive gear exists!” Said no one who cares about music, ever. All of these conversations baffle me.

Do I want to learn about new gear? Yes. Are there things I want that I don’t have? Yes. Do I have any interest in 1000 videos about why (x) guitar or company sucks, because of what it costs? Not remotely. Guitars are not food. It’s not something you buy over and over again every day. Get mad about inflation, fine. But if the one guitar you want, so that you can play your best, is expensive, you will save up and get it, and keep it forever. And you won’t complain about it over and over, because it was worth it to you. Did you buy an expensive guitar, and there is still no one who thinks you’re any good? Is that why you’re mad?

There is absolutely no one who goes to a Joe Bonamassa concert because he owns a bunch of old collector’s items. “I really want to see him play that ‘59 Les Paul!”. They go because they like his music, and because they think he’s a good guitar player. I’m not his biggest fan, but I don’t resent him for owning gear either. Go practice.

  5. I don’t have a problem with guitar center. Almost bought an SG from them today. Had a Gibson SG Standard with $400 off and it was very nice to play.

  6. Loved the story about the fishing poles given to this kid :). And that parker , what an insanely beautiful guitar!!

  7. 12:44 – 😂 it’s not just you, I know a lot of hunters and fishermen who have “trophy” rooms and have photos and mounted fish and animals all over the house. They will display guns and rods either in a room or in the mud room etc. also grew up around stock car community and everyone had photos of old cars and trophies and will have stickers on everything with their own cars and will wear tee shirts and hoodies of their current and former cars. I also knew a couple of guys who had furniture they made with parts from their old cars. And yes it’s awesome.
I chalk it up to being proud of what you have. I got those nice guitars to play the last thing I want is to stash ‘em away in a case in a dark closet never to be seen but once a year

  8. Let me just say thank you for these podcasts; I've learned so much from you, I highly appreciate it! You especially made a guy like me, who's not really all that diy, less afraid to take apart my guitars and work on them if needed. There's still much I can't do, but recently, for example, I installed a PU cover using your video and it felt great to have been the one to do it~ ^^

  9. I love it when Phil says his favorite guitars are Schecter’s and Fender’s. That’s what I own and I love them as well.

  10. I saw Biffy Clyro open for the Foo Fighters in 2011. Motörhead was supposed to be there too but Lemmy and Mikkey Dee were stuck in the Dallas airport due to storms so we missed them. Biffy got an extended opening set and Foos went on early and played almost 3 hours.

  11. Market is definitely soft, i got $500 off the price of a GIbson SG Standard this week. Never got a deal like that before.

  12. I wish Parker Guitars could be revived. It was the one guitar I always wanted but couldn’t afford back in the day. Even now, they’re going for top dollar.

  13. I love your idea about reviews where you compare two guitars; absolutely some of your best reviews. I get a way better idea of each guitar, kinda like I do at a guitar store. Keep up the great work!

  14. I always manage to find new around the current used price. I generally don't have any issue moving something at a very minimal loss or sometimes a modest gain.
