   Under maritime law as captain you are legally required to report an event. Or face much harsher penalties if eventually found responsible….. Not saying yacht crew started the fire but captain was protecting his ass by reporting it.

21. I’m not a lawyer but the charge of arson seems like one that would have to prove intent to cause a fire. If this fire is the result of fireworks from the vessel, perhaps negligence resulting in the fire would be a more appropriate charge.

22. I don't know how it works in Greece, but most of the fire problems in US can be directly attributed to the stopping of forest management. Fires are natural and regularly occuring in unmanaged forests. If you don't groom forests lots of tinder lays around making it easy for nature or arsonist to create a devasting blaze.
