I will put money on it. See this time and again, with people of wealth, in any situation where they feel they have control, getting seats on a plane or getting tables at restaurants, whatever. I am certain those that perished were the type of personalities who cannot be told what to do. The survivors were the ones that would have followed crew instructions and stayed up at 4:30am without complaint. The others probably were sleeping off a heavy dinner and alcohol, shrugged it off as a storm in a teacup and stayed in their private quarters. The wife probably survived because she actually owned the yacht and was still arguing with the crew to save face with her few remaining guests that were milling about uncertain and scared. As to why….If the mast snapped as some have said, it could have punched a hole through the hull as well as unbalancing it.
