  1. Actually you can sail Mahi single handed w/o any problems if you follow the many advises given below, among them anchor windlass, autopilot, boom with boom vang (the latter one because you have no proper traveller) , a well tailored foresail, some day in the future a square head main, a roller furling foresail is convenient but not a necessity. Maybe after some more experience you would like to add a winch or a cleat in certain positions.
Btw you got a lot of deck area to put the dinghy on, adds maybe half a knot to your boat speed.

  2. Dear Wildling Sailing Mark.
👍👌👏 6 knots! This was some proper sailing. Congratulations! 🎉With the third sail up and without pulling the dinghy behind, Mahi might have been even way faster. 2) Sir, you definitely need an anchor winch! A manual one will still be better than always pulling the dirty wet chain by hand! I guess that the fantastic marine shop that had all those used items, will also sell anchor winches!? 3) Are the fishes that you caught not eatable? At least the first one looked like being a decent size. 4) I'm happy to hear that you get a new used dinghy with a reliable outboard engine. Hope that you will be able to store the dinghy onboard Mahi some day in the future.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health in particular.

  3. Just a word of warning that putting fiberglass on your rudders doesn't work as UV-Protection, as that is also held on with epoxy which will degrade with the UV. It does of course help with keeping water out completely, but would need paint for the UV protection itself.

  4. I never lost faith in you and I knew you could do this. You also have two other wonderful people on your support team and I honor your Mom and Dad for their faith and passion in what their son is doing, unwavering support, it’s the very best a parent can do and the love between you is very apparent. I’ll continue to support you and hope to run into you somewhere in the world. Go do it young man, your whole world has changed and now it’s a straight run to old age. It’s all the “fun stuff” now. Take all your success, and failures, in stride. As my kids always said about their school years, not showing off, not falling behind.

  5. A better way to moor to a ring on a mooring buoy, is to use 2 ropes.
One from the port bow through the ring and back to the port bow.
The second rope from the port starboard bow through the ring and back to the starboard bow.
This gives more control of the bridal lenghts, and stops wear on the rope as it slides back and forth through the ring.
Good luck with your first saltwater experience in your new boat.

  6. You need a boom and if single handing a windlass with a remote or wired to the helm . Self tacking jib would be nice .

I never ever single hand without a waterproof handheld VHF in my pocket – that way you can call for rescue if you go in and direct them to you . Cheap insurance and you probably already have one .

  7. Hey Mark, there is a vlogging girl Natasha from Russia with a popular utube channel. She has been stuck in Georgia for a while but now she got a visa and she is in the Netherlands. Natasha is a very important person. Not really girlfriend material but..
I would be so stoked if you could get her on the boat for a sail.

  8. Amazing the work you have done. When using the hand plane, files, normal wood or metal saws don’t drag the tool backwards. Every time you drag the tool backwards it dulls the cutting part of the tool. For a plane it pushes down and forward. Then ease off the downward pressure or much better life the tool off the work piece as you draw the tool backwards. Try it out a sharpened plane will last much longer and give you better shavings lingering.
Always fun to watch. I replaced over a Hu deed snaps on my boat today. Rather be planing wood….
Oh always wear a safety line u til you get some sort of railing. One slip and bad things happen.
