I think it should be pointed out that Rick Rubin helped finance Smoky Mountain Wrestling in the beginning to help get it started up, but it’s not like he sent Jim millions of dollars every month. he sent him enough to get things started, but once they kind of gotten their own groove of things, a lot of things when they lost money and had to use their own money to cover it was done by Jim himself.

    And creatively everything in Smoky Mountain was Jim’s idea except for the wrestling mummy. For some reason, Rick Rubin really wanted that and Jim kind of had to do it so that was really I think the only embarrassing thing Jim ever booked, but it’s not like it was his call.

    I will always maintain that in the first half of the 90s if you talk about just working with what they had I think smoky mountain/Jim Cornett did the best booking with what he had. No, he didn’t have Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan or Sting or Ricky Steamboat ever as their champion and as a main guy, but he did the best with what he had and I think he did a better job than WWF or WCW did with what they had.

    I mean, WWF and WCW did have big stars like Sting, Hogan, Flair, Savage, Diesel, Vader, Yokozuna, Bret Hart , HBK etc. But it didn’t really make a difference because when you look at how their companies were being booked, it actually took away from the talent that they had.

    I would honestly say just using what they had smoky mountain from the fall of 1992 to the summer of 1995 was the best booked promotion in the United States .
