  1. IKEA design and IKEA quality. Probably okay for the rich person who just wants a weekend toy and can afford to pay to keep it in one of the marinas on the UK south coast. Not so good on passage though. I passed one on my mono hull while I watched it pogo in the chop. The bow was coming out of the water all the way back to the keels. Horses for courses.

  2. Morning Ladies. Very interesting that you say Salty Lass has no Prop Walk. I have a Bavaria 33 ( my first boat). It has a saildrive like you but it most definitely does have prop walk. I think prop walk is caused by several different factors not just the tilt of the prop. When you next go out, could you actually have a look at this ? I would be extremely interested to find out what you discover.

  3. Amazing I was waiting for this ikea video 😂 BTW I believe Bavaria before they started making boats used to make furniture! Maybe that’s why the wood in the 1998 to 2006 boats were well made.

  5. I agree the monohulls are getting wider at back and inside. I think allot of the sales go to fleet, charter companies and allot of the design goes towards these. I found that some of the ikea looking interior boats had incredible creaking from their wood interiors too

  6. Giday Wenches, how the …… are u both, I'm having a great moment, why u ask, I'm watching an episode of Salty Lass.😂🤣😛🐧🐘 with ur asthma Gaynor, u really should be wearing a respirator, dealing with chemicals, naughty Lass. But remember it's what Beverley says that matters😲😲 Production boats, just thrown together, they come with instruction manuals. It's not wood it's generally veneer, or covered in laminate.

  7. For me it does not matter the colour of the wood i just want it to be robust. I looked at a 2014 bav and it was falling to bits with lots of the hinges loose and screws falling out. I have seen the same on a 2009 Hanse and it was in a similar state. I cannot believe that they are still installing port lights over the galley (without rain shields) that let water in when its raining.

  8. I actually think those "IKEA design" boats are ugly as heck.
The older look just has more appeal, in my humble opinion.
And all those sharp corners are a sore, literally and figuratively.

  9. I'm assuming we both know the same Trevor who owns a Bavaria called nik nak. I know him from club racing at SLYC.

Edit: would you give me some info on this discord server.

  10. It's what I hate about most modern boats the IKEA look. I too was at the boat show and the god's honest truth is even if I was a lottery winner it would be a no from me. I thought about it so what would you do with your millions then. I would buy an older boat probably of Scandinavian heritage or thereabouts and have a complete refit done at the best yard I could find

  11. I thought the Ikea title was going to be about the hinges which are a classic Ikea design (hopefully yours are in stainless steel).
A third option beside new Ikea boats for marinas and "classic" boats with lots of dark wood is an older boat that needs a lot of work. For us that means no more dark wood as the veneer had so much water damage. Our 1977 Rival 38 is being transformed with light coloured paint – makes her seem a lot larger.
