In trying to understand why Myanmar teak is ‘illegal’, I find this: Myanmar teak is under sanctions in the US, UK, Canada and the EU for its role in bankrolling the military junta in Myanmar. After this initial reason for sanctioning, because the west doesn’t like Myanmar politics, it is then advised that the actual reason is ‘deforestation’. I suspect that deforestation sounds much more acceptable, but that the actual issue for Myanmar teak is a political one. Just my opinion.
My guess is Bezos wont give a flying fig if he has blood wood on deck.

Ocean Breeze Statement on Tuesday 3 December
It is with great sadness that World Cruising Club confirms that 33-year-old Swedish sailor Dag Eresund was lost overboard from yacht Ocean Breeze on Monday 2 December at 02:27 UTC.
The search was coordinated by MRCC Norfolk USA and involved Ocean Breeze, ARC yacht Leaps & Bounds 2 and motor vessel Project X. Air cover was not possible due to the distance of the incident from land.
With loss of daylight and in worsening seas, MRCC Norfolk ended the active search at 20:45 UTC on Monday. MRCC has requested that all vessels able should amend course to pass through the search area of 20o24.838N 043o11.623W and to keep a sharp lookout for any signs of a person in the water. All ARC yachts have been asked to assist with MRCC’s request.
This area will be amended over time to take account of drift rates and weather conditions. MRCC Norfolk will continue to provide updated coordinates.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dag Eresund’s family and friends and with all the crew members on Ocean Breeze at this unbelievably difficult time.
We thank the skippers and crew of Leaps & Bounds 2 and Project X for diverting to assist in the search.
World Cruising Club has the permission of Mr Eresund’s family to release his name.

Vile behavior from vile men, although I appreciate the amazing craftsmanship of these yachts, it is disturbing knowing far too much wealth has been built off the backs of the poor,… Perhaps Amazon should be taxed at an equal % rate of average Americans… The compete disconnect of the wealthy is astonishing… Right you are about size, and owning a super yacht doesn’t make mushrooms larger.

Man overboard- it has been known for those personal locator beacons not to work if they are set up wrong. The aerial has to be a certain disance away from the beacon both on your body for it to work. If too close to each other they can interfere with each other and no signal sent. Hopefully this crew members' one is set up correctly as they need to get him quick!

Is the Myanmar teak, which is grossly inferior to Thai teak and roughly equivalent to Indian teak so much cheaper that it warrants buying from dodgy Myanmar dealers?
am i missing something? they said he went overboard with an ais device but they never said whether it was working or not im assuming its not because they haven't found him going on 36 hours later

The US Government punished Gibson guitars for purchasing wood from a questionable vendor a decade or so ago. Eventually they reached a settlement and some of the wood was returned and used in a limited edition of guitars.
