11. While I try to avoid questions, I am not familiar with a port ship. You were talking about the two ships that burst into flame in port Washington and you named one vessel and referred to the other as a port ship. I am going to toss out two logical (to me) meanings – a shipped moored in the port or a ship to the left of the other vessel. Would someone who knows explain? Searching gave me an amazing number of articles explaining port vs starboard but no real answers. Thank you. Great video, as always!

12. The captain of M/Y Phi clearly does not understand the process by which the detention order was signed. The relevant statue law which allows sanctions to be imposed grants certain limited powers to ministers and ministers may choose to take arbitrary actions so long as they do not exceed the powers granted by the law. The minister signs a document specifying what is to be done, and that document is then actioned. That process is specifically authorised by the law and there is thus no need for the document to go through parliament. The further problem for Phi and its' owner is that the High Court and the Court of Appeal both declared the process by which the order was signed and enacted as within the powers granted, so overturning the decision to detain the vessel is likely to be very difficult.

The Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 grants the UK government the power to seize maritime vessels "owned, controlled, chartered, operated or crewed by … persons connected with a prescribed country". Russia is a prescribed country and the UK courts have so far ruled that Sergei Naumenko is connected with Russia, on the grounds that he could not be extremely rich without the knowledge and/or approval of the Russian government. The term "connected with" is considered by many lawyers to be unsuitable for statute law because it is extremely vague, but it what the law says.

16. reallity check on Phi: It is easy to being the ship back to brand spanking new, seaworthy, or is the ship now closer to a write off because too colstly to bring back to state of good repair?
    From the time that the UK government asserted they would not maintain the boat, should't the owner have accidentally opened a campagne bottle upside down with the cork punching a hole throughh the hull causing the boat to sink and let the UK government figure out what to do with an abandonned sunken vessel in downtown London? (ro other means to render the boat worthless and then just formally abandon it and donate it to UK government for it to be responsible for its cleanup/disposal ?)

17. About the Port Washington confusion, apparently there was someone of some significance to American history named Washington, so they’ve named a bunch of different places after him. IIRC, he chopped down a tea tree and used it to host a tea party.
