18. So, what makes the HR53 a great bluewater boat? We have been cruising full-time for the past 2 years aboard HR53 #22 between Maine and Grenada. We passage plan for 7.5kts, and regularly achieve it. The hull shape and displacement make for excellent comfort and handling offshore. We carry 265g water and 330g fuel for a motoring range greater than 1200nm at 7.5kts. We rarely need foul weather gear, thanks to the hard top and cockpit enclosure, and can do most everything from the cockpit. In mast furling is a compromise, but likely the best furling system for a boat of this size sailed offshore doublehanded. We are all electric (no propane). The linear galley is excellent, and we have enough storage to provision for 6mo with a full month of cold goods. Most systems are common across all HRs, and the owner's group and HR Parts are exceptionally valuable resources. As with any boat, there are several things to watch out for, but given the opportunity to buy another cruiser, we'd choose the HR53 again. SV Incognito.

19. My dream is to sail around the world. I'm 67, own my home without a mortgage, but after a three year sail, I'd still want to have a home to live in, so I'll have to continue earning for a while if I'm to realise my dream!

20. Did you know that you did that entire tour with a pen in your hand! Opening lockers pulling back cushions etc with every chance of scratching woodwork. Please treat other peoples property as if it was own. Not impressed.

    We (50-60 yr) intend to do just what you recommend: sell up, buy a HR and start full time cruising.
    However, due to mast hight, mooring costs and maintenance costs, are aiming for a 46.
    Still big enough and the same quality and looks.

23. She is an absolutely stunning world cruiser. She will keep you safe, secure, and comfortable. Only my skills could cause a problem. If I had $200K more, I would try to make her mine. Unfortunately, I made too many mistakes in life. I'm looking for this boat but 25 years older.

35. Great review of a dream yacht. I’ll keep my house and my modest go-anywhere Najad I think. All those systems to go wrong, I felt anxious each time he opened a locker to reveal another thing that will need maintaining..
