With so much apparent client corruption in this industry, I wonder what a typical Yard's payment terms are, presumably a substantial cleared cash down-payment during the design stage and prior to laying the keel, plus significant periodic payments at significant build-completion percentages/stages, only requiring a final delivery payment near the sea-trials stage?

  6. 45 min ….. wth. Where was the yacht captain trained ??? Thats just bonkers. Of all the methods I know the 1 best and only method I ever use in any sea condition on a sail yacht is as soon as MOB, crash tack and center the main. Slam the helm hard over all the way on the tack and lock it off. Then you can do whatever you need. The person will always pass your stern as you do tight circles at similar drift. Throw the line and pull them in. 45min……guys get your 💩💩💩together and practice more often…..very very lucky nobody was lost in those temperatures. Embarrasing

  14. The Canadian Air Force (CAF) does water immersion training, where they throw 2 people into the water with survival suits, but no gloves, and then get the people to do tasks. Pretty soon your hands are so numb you can't do anything, you can't even help yourself. Cold water is no joke, and a lifejacket without an immersion suit doesn't buy you much. Imagine a less capable crew, or just 2 crew on a boat and 1 goes over.

  19. It’s astounding that a $100M asset can go through all this public controversy, the suspected owner deny his ownership , and then when he is about to lose control of it, a relative shows up, claims ownership, and then expects to just walk/sail away with it.

  30. The most unprofessional statement I have heard in a long time: “Thank God I was wearing my life jacket ….”. Even thinking of sailing without is beyond any normal thinking.
    AND surviving cold water: there simple showing the expected time before becoming unconcious based on water temperature and clothing. BUT remember: the ability to grab or hold a line will be gone very quickly; the victim needs to pulled by rescuers alone.

  33. Just to clarify hypothermia isn't fatal in minutes – this is a myth. What affects people in the first few seconds/minutes of people being immersed or submerged in cold water is cold shock which results in strong sympathetic stimulation which can cause cardiac arrythmias (particularly if combined with parasympathetic activation from the diving reflex) in people with cardiac disease causing sudden death. Cold shock also results in a pretty much uncontrollable need to breathe which is why it's extremely important to prevent you being splashed in the face or keep your face clear of the water when entering cold water (other than transiently) to prevent you aspirating water and drowning. Hypothermia will eventually kill you but it takes longer than the few minutes described even in very cold water you still have a few minutes of useful activity where you can do things and try to escape followed by a longer period where you can make yourself as easy to rescue as possible before eventually becoming unconscious and then eventually death….
