  1. I used to love X-yachts as they sailed well but failed on handicap. They have probably addressed that here, but I see so many issues. The wide stern but lack of reserve buoyancy in the bow. Ok for flat water but in waves the bow will dig and they have a deck channel that will send it to the rail sitters. Nice in a frostbite race! There is nowhere to brace in the cockpit either and cross sheeting is impossible with internal sheets. In the hands of a professional helmsman and a crew that can continuously trim this boat would be a dream but we all know some captains just have money and no skill.

  2. X yachts are impressive. A cut above the usual pop-outs, but they have always used this stupid galvanised steel frame as the main structural member throughout a third of the boat. It could not be more misplaced – being steel in a bilge. After 5 years they always start to corrode, no matter how dry the bilge is kept ( and why the hell should getting saltwater occassionaly in the bilge of a boat be a problem anyway?)
Trying to remove the corrosion is extremely time-consuming and virtually impossible, short of almost rebuilding the hull. It is incredible they can be built with such a basically unsound principle to the design.
It is a shame they have an all plastic interior now. They used to be quite classy

  3. New Subscriber! Very nice channel – QUESTION – If we forced you to make a decision and money was not the issue, just the following. A couple doing a circumnavigation and taking five years to do it slowly. Which sailboat would you take if you had your choice/way with it. we won't hold you to it.. but what it the safe bet for that? At some point in the past someone might say an Amel Super Maramu or an Oyster 485 or something. But what is your choice today? Would it be new or older? would it be a Catamaran or sailboat/mono??
