  1. Captain , that was a good and interesting delivery video! You did a great job covering a lot of content that most of us pleasure boaters may not experience. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I live where there are no tides and have no experience with them. Would you have been able to dock that with a single screw with just a bow thruster? I know your a busy guy, but I would love to see a narration with current direction and your throttle positions. Thanks for all your videos

  3. Shakespeare himself would struggle to find the words to describe how amazing this YouTube channel is!

It’s plainly obvious Will knows his stuff. For me though it’s the way he communicates with his audience. He’s taking you along for the ride, as if you are there in the boat with him.

If you’re new to the Captains’ Coach, grab yourself a coffee (or your favourite beverage), put your feet up, sit back and relax as he shares his knowledge and breathtaking views of Florida and the Keys.

Before y’all ask, nope I ain’t getting paid for this!

  4. Two big Cummins. Yes. Sometimes I wish we were somewhere on the icw with more restaurants and then I watch these videos and thank goodness we're in a dead spot.

  5. Love the channel and you have taught me a lot. Stern focused docking has totally changed the way I dock. Thank you!

  6. You made it look easy as usual which shows the extensive training and proactive hard work youve done in your days on the sea.

  7. Thanks Will… lots of learning from your efforts and experience.

I just realized that finding you way is about paying attention and following your gut and learning to take things in stride as they come… adjust, compensate, maintain control without riding the cotton pucker pony.

Ahh but that flipping log or piece of pylon floating out there. As long as you can see it coming… no problemo.

But heading into the sun as it gets lower on the horizon and you can't see schmidt. Or even just the angle of light on the glinting surface of the water… fuzzing out your ability to perceived that thing floating just under the surface.

All you can do is slow it down when you don't feel comfortable with that situation. Follow your gut…

If you don't have any gut sensation… you may as well be a blind pilot.

Never go faster than what the boat can handle when running over such a thing. That means you must know the limitations of your vessel.

Fixed screws means a bent prop or two and possibly a shaft. Big outboards give a bit more forgiveness as they are built to withstand a certain level of impact.

But it's always a nightmare to even think about when your way out there…

How best to put nightmares to sleep… means trusting you trained gut instincts.

It takes some time to get there… doesn't it.🤔

    Gord

  8. Great content, Will. Thanks for showing the scenarios that challenge you as well – like the final docking situation here. You are a pro’s pro.

  9. I'm not even a boater, but enjoy watching someone that knows what they're doing. Learning a lot in case I do decide to become a boat owner.

  10. Kudos for giving the sailboat a slow pass. Way too many power boaters have no courtesy and blast by at full throttle, leaving a massive wake causing all sorts of mayhem for the sailboats

  11. I've never had a boat with thrusters so why don't you use the thrusters to walk the boat off the dock and not the gears. I'm a lifelong boater but on smaller models than would have thrusters. (I'm almost there).

  12. I live in Palm Harbor. I have 100 ton masters retired lived in Key West for 20 years. Would be happy to help you the first Mate anytime my friend just saw you so lo the swift it’s easier with 2

  13. My algorithm ❤ for once got It right. Watched 3 videos 6 hrs of my life NOT wasted. Pure knowledge. ALWAYS RENT BOATS . MARATHON bridge to kwys south or north gulf of America 🇺🇸 side or Atlantic. YOU ARE teaching me and others . COMMON SENSE RULES. P.S. 3 VIDEOS didn't have a first mate.
    If I didn't have 5 young kids .. wife …
    Heck be your first mate.

  14. Love the timelaps! You should do more of those in your long form videos. Aside from all the knowledge you drop on us, I know I watch to see open water crossings, too
