Why did they need new engines after 10 years.. Detroit diesels are very hard on fuel I am surprised that they put Detroit in the boat

Hell, I wouldn’t mind this as a liveaboard as-is. Would be roughing it for a while obviously, but at least I’d be on the water.

As projects got completed, living conditions would improve. As far as running condition/seaworthiness, that would be last on the list, or just leave it for the next guy.

those engines are gonna be a pain to rebuild..watch bus grease monkey..he did a rebuild on a boat like this and they had to blow the walls on the engine room apart to be able to do a in frame rebuild.
I wonder why she was repowered after only ten years in 1985 ? It a Burger and you won’t have any Hull issues. Someone can get great deal and the Detroits can definitely be rebuilt. She has enough there to work with and hopefully she will be back on the water.
To overhaul the engines at an estimated $40K? Estimates for repairs or overhauls with yachts, especially with engines and electronics, are fraught with pitfalls – always double your best estimate.
